Our terminal is in Columbiana they call it the Youngstown terminal. Yes I usually leave the yard at 8ish, about an hour and a half to Pittsburgh, do P&D till about 6. Usually back at the yard by 7-8. Pretty close to 12 hrs a day, some days more some less. Average day is around 15-20 stops. We do P&D a lot further away than Pittsburgh. Depending on which side of town i am on, its about 50-90 miles each way.

I had one run that I used to have to do on occasion that was only six stops. But it was around 420 miles total, and very little of it was on freeway. Mostly narrow winding mountainous road.

    Sounds like fun.

In my yard we have dedicated routes, guys usually drive over 300 miles and only make a few stops. It pays hourly but not as much as the regular city peddle guys.

USF Reddaway. Just started with them. Really like my job, but boy its hard. I run night time line haul for them in the Rocky Mountain region, but going over to P & D ASAP.

Hey JC, I see that is your 13th post, welcome to the forum!:yes2557:

It does actually get easier as you get more used to it. What is likely to really be harder, is P & D. I'm guessing that with 34 years of driving behind you, that you "ain't no kid no more. . .":biggrin_25523:

In and out of that truck and trailer many times a shift, particularly in rain, snow or ice, is no picnic. Particularly if most of your stops don't involve a dock. But again, you do get used to it.

    Good luck to you!

I moved from line haul in April of this year to P&D. Personally I prefer getting in and out of the truck all day, keeps the brain moving and its good for the body. Line haul would put me to sleep. Been driving 34 years and most of it was New York City and intermodal freight here in Colorado. So im no stranger to LTL. Im 52 and I love the physical part of the job (and Im no light weight) So it keeps me from getting fatter. Reddaway here in Colorado is Great. They treat me well, pay me a fair wage and I like my co workers. So I have nothing but good things to say about Reddaway!

Most of my stops are NOT docks, but like I said it beats sitting on your duff getting fatter and fatter.
It funny how the line haul guys told me how I would hate P&D... P&D is SOOOOOOOO much easier for me and it pays about the same. So I couldn't be happier

Hey that is Great, jc! For the most part, I enjoyed the P & D myself. Until my old body just flat said "NO MORE!"

If you don't mind my asking, what was your run when you were line haul?

I don't really miss line haul anymore. All regulars know me by name. Some places I got to go to security and get a visitor sticker. The lady knows me and when I pull up she runs out with my sticker and nane already on it. The security in the building knows me as well and are good guys. When i go on a different route they alk ask where i am lol. Somw xustomers i text if gonna be late. Theylse places are all late pickups as well
