Here in Cleveland Sysco still does it them selves, but that wouldn't surprise me Sysco has a very very hard time retaining employees.

i'm pretty sure at UPSF that driver seniority applies to both city and road boards. So, in other words come bid time--which is every 6 months here, you can pick any run---either city or linehaul irregardless---if you have enough seniority. What tends to happen is the drivers with the most seniority take the linehaul runs anyways. But there are drivers with high and/or top seniority that choose to stay in the city----not everyone wants to work at night.
The funny thing i've noticed about both union senority and non-union companies is that everyone kind of ends up where they want to be anyways. That being stated i would rather have it this way---unionized seniority system. i would rather be extra-board city, but i'm not unhappy where with what i got.
i like the idea of once someone gets on a run, then that run is locked in to that driver and not up for bid until s/he wants to leave it. If a new run opens up, then everyone can bid on it.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Now as far as Lucy wanting to get a daytime linehaul run, i actually think it's more possible than we might think----IF you're willing to re-locate? Do you have kids?
What i'm wondering is how to find out which terminal(s) has those runs?
This is my goal too.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
That's how we are at GFS once your on a bid that's your bid until something else comes along you can't be bumped off of it, the only problem is we don't have stuff up for bid until someone leaves, but I like my new set of routes so I'll take it ha-ha!

Wouldn't a major break bulk terminal have day time stuff? Yesterday I was coming back from the warehouse on a volume transfer run and I saw a set of UPS Freight triples on I-80 heading from Ohio to PA near Youngstown and it was only 2pm in the afternoon. I see quite a few FedEx Freight trucks on I-80 during the day a lot of them actually.

Our barn in Richmond VA is a hub and they have quite a few daytime linehauls.Mike2633 Thanks this.

I passed one of these nitwits on 50 the other day on my way back. He was pulling pups with a dolly on the tail.

That all sounds about right they have such a rag tag trailer fleet.
-
Problem is, that isn't legal in MD.
Mike2633 Thanks this. -
I was going to say you can't have two pups and a dolly on the second pup. That's not legal, that's considered triples right? Why wouldn't it be. In Ohio you can only do triples on the turnpike. You can pull a pup and dolly but you can't pull two pups with a dolly hanging off the second pup.
