I'd like to jump in here and ask if anybody has ever been to the landfill and actually driven up the trash mountain to dump like the trash trucks do. Because I have. They have a tipper at the top for dumping regular trailers, and I had to take loads of scrap fiberglass ceiling tile there a few times to dump. You know the huge trash mountain on 71 just south of Columbus? I drove to the top of that thing. I have no idea how much money those trash haulers make but I can tell you that they definitely don't make enough.

The first time I had to get out on top of that trash mountain to open my doors, I wanted to cry and puke at the same time. It's horrific. It's like a vision of what hell could actually be like. You're surrounded by needles, diapers, tampons and Garfield's used cat litter. I wouldn't recommend that job to my worst enemy. Sure, people supposedly "get used to it" but I can't imagine how anybody could.

I am a linehaul driver, and I can relate to some of the downsides that make it sorta suck sometimes despite the money. But I have to say, if one of my coworkers came up to me with a plan to quit and haul trash, I'd probably smack him and scream something incoherent until he said he changed his mind.

Maybe it's just not for me, but I can say that I am grateful to have had that experience. It was the ultimate catalyst that forced me to look for another job and get away from that company after 5 years. It only took three trips to the landfill in the middle of summer to convince myself that it was time to go.

I agree. I hauled a transfer trailer from the transfer stations to landfill for almost a year and a half. I didn't think it was bad at all. Very easy job. If it paid by the hour versus the load I would have stayed and retired from the company I worked for. Some days I kind of miss it.

I did rolloff for a while, and not only is the place stinky and filthy, wait until you get stuck in that mound of decomposing slime.

I’ve been in landfills with a steel body dump trailer. That was quite enough. For as well as you can see the holes in the ground while you have the trailer in the air, you may as well be in the middle of a minefield.

Do not do it. 20 years is a long time man. You've been LTL all of my life aside 7 years. I wouldn't leave. If anything, save up money, buy your own little trucks, have people drive them, and you just stay home eating cakes and playing battlefield.

Win/win but I don't think you play video games lol

I worked for Waste Management back in the end of the 80's, consistent work for sure.

You think lifting and dropping a 5 yards bin will not become routine quickly. hmmmm.

All I can tell you is be safe, always look up before lifting, wear your ppp 's, WMI is big on the safety issues.
