I have never added an additive to my diesel units that I use all the time and has fresh fuel in it the fuel depots sell the fuel that is temperature corrected for their area. If you come from Texas and are going to Alaska you may need an anti-gel. If you drive locally you will not have a problem. If the fuel you get gels it would gel in the fuel depot and not flow there.
Same as washer fluid, you want to stock up in the coldest areas you are going to. I was in Phoenix, and the strongest I could find was 32F Nevada it was 0F.

ATF is a very good detergent, I add it about 50 Kilometers before I change the oil usually add it then pull the mountain home and drain it right away, and punch a hole in the filter.
I have worked on engine all my life it cleans the engine. Next time you get your hands really dirty, with brake dust or carbon take a little ATF and rub them together for a minute then wipe and wash with soap.
I add ATF to an engine, class eight's, and run it, while I wash it, before I do major work, drain it, put air into the oil preasure gauge hose to blow it out, for a while, then lower the preasure and punch the filter.
I have worked on engines that use oil additives, Lucas Crap, and Schaeffers oil Crap.
I use good oil and filters, and instead of buying an additive change the oil earlier, your engine will appreciate it.
As a mechanic I have seen the results, from using different products.
The fuel lubricity study, that is all great. BUT please do tell me, what parts in a fuel system have steel rub together, none they all have fuel as a lubricant keeping the parts apart. When they touch they are junk.
I once had a guy explain these types of studies, are like testing a tire by dragging it down the road without turning and rating them that way. I do buy fuel that has BIO in it, as does every fuel I have seen they have a decal at the pump telling you that. -
That's 1 time I wish you were right. I run local and have trouble if I dont add additves when its going into the single digits. -
I worked at an engine dealership, in Edmonton and moonlighted for a pebble hauler, he use to have the drivers, every time they fueled up, they would empty the two gallon jug into the fuel tank then refill with fuel while they were fueling up, that way if the fuel in the jug was gelled he knew, and would tow it into the shop, and call the fuel rep. He would cut it with Kerosene. The old 6L71T's would burn anything.
The sulphur content of fuel does not affect the gel point. Some people have said that different Bio fuels additives do.
If your rought is in a certain area I would ask the supplier when they change to the different winter grades. That would be a good thing for suppliers to post on line!
Just a thought! -
THAT XPD is good ...can feel the POWER!! Quality 2 cycle oil (Amsoil) is good too!

I'm not crazy about biodiesel in my engine. I wish they would at least give me a choice to buy regular petrodiesel without any biodiesel blend.
Not crazy about ULSD either, but I'd rather use a lubricity additive (like the two-stroke oil someone mentioned) than biodiesel to get that lubricity back. -
I have been around long enough to remember most every of the latest and greatest thing 99.9% after a while were proven to be 100% BS. Everything from Speedway Corporation like Prolong, mineral oil and red dye. I remember some guy packaging Cow Magnets and trucker bought them buy the bushel full, they put them in their tanks covered their fuel lines.
As far as not buying Bio -diesel that is an aditive they add, to boost the cetain number of the fuel. I do not know anywhere that they sell fuel, that they do not use it.
I noted before that I have never, not once has a customer come in with a fuel problem that admitted to adding anything as an aditive, not once, and that was my specialty. Never had one say they added ATF, that has Molybdenum in it, or Two cycle oil, not one, why would that be?
If you want to do something that will enhance long life from your fuel system. Detroit use to double the fuel system warranty if you added a Davco fuel filtration system as a factory option. You never have to change the filter again because it might be dirty you know when to change it, saves you a fortune in filters.
If you think that aditive you are adding is so great they must give a warranty. Go to their site, and look it up ask their representative?
Then go to the Davco site and there is a video that shows how their system works. they will not give you a warranty either but ask if you spec the truck from new what they do. -
I don't know anywhere to get non-biodiesel-blended fuel either. And of course, you can't get non-ULSD fuel anymore, either. Doesn't mean I have to like it, though. Would love for fuel suppliers (and the law) to actually give me a choice.
