Apply silicone brake lube to inside of cover.

If you ever go to Blue Beacon for a wash and get the wheel treatment, the acidic chemicals will completely destroy the lug and hub chrome covers. Within a few days they will show rust and corrosion.

What is the purpose of those nut covers?
I would rather see my nuts so I can tell if any problems are developing
Seems like they would trap moisture as well and that cant be goodaustinmike and feldsforever Thank this. -
Never had a problem trapping moisture with my thread on ones. The lug caps themselves don't really hide much as far as seeing problems but those full hubcaps that cover the whole lug area take away the ability to examine for cracks starting between the studs which is why I ditched mine.Banker, The Crossword Trucker and feldsforever Thank this.

I got some plastic ones that look like chrome from a local shop. The guy said they are better than metal because they don’t rust. They were cheap enough I bought a few spares but haven’t needed them yet. They just slide on.

That's what I run. I've got years on most of mine and they still look new. They are the screw on type. I bought a package of 20 or so and just replace one now and then when I lose one.OldeSkool and The Crossword Trucker Thank this.
