I've seen guys "chain up" an axle, and limp to a tire shop, although, I'd surely wait for the cover of darkness for that deal.
Yep... I was pullin a 53' van that had super-singles on it on IL I-88... middle of the night.. the trailer's RF tandem brake drum 'exploded' into cast iron shrapnel, taking out that rim/tire as well as air line fitting on rear brake chamber. Road service truck fixed the air fitting, yanked the destroyed rim/tire, and chained the axle up.
On horn with company and they wanted me to 'limp it in' to the terminal 90 miles away all chained up. lol
I told them the odds of that happening were on par with them calling General Eisenhower and having him agree to push it back there barehanded.
I did ~bend~ some DOT rules and limped it back to the truck service shop about 5 miles north of there.
