has anyone ever had this happen to you? I want to go after the shop that did this but I need a bit of proof as to what it looks like from others that have experienced it. I have photos.

Most shops nowadays cover themselves liability wise saying that you must stop and recheck the torque within 50 miles. How soon did the wheel come loose? I always watch them impact them on and verify they use a torque multiplier then visually check to make sure they all have them equally tightened by thread depth.

I have never had to go after a shop for it though. I think there might be other similar posts on here if you use the search function at the top right.

This is one of my greatest fears - driving down the freeway and one of the tires flying and hitting someone.

Why, what's the hub-bub, bub, you lose a set? Years ago when we had wagon wheels, it was the drivers responsibility to check your lugs every couple days. Sometimes, you'd get a half a turn.

This was the inside rear and I did not watch him. It carved a circle out of the wheel then shattered it. In that process it rubbed against the out side wheel and carved into it before all of it busted. There was a slight shake to the truck but we were looking at the front end for the problem. I drove it for approx 2 weeks before the shaking came about

you are suppose to pretrip the tires before you drive.

Every evening. You could not see the problem. Outside nuts were always good

IDK, something doesn't sound right for loose lugs. If they were loose, you'd think the outside would come apart 1st, or wobble. Maybe the inside rim came apart, I've seen that happen with Budds.

I don't see how you can go after shop if it's been two weeks. The pre trip thing will kinda mess up you claim. They do make things you put on lug nuts that show when they are loose.
