This lumper thing has been beat to death. While the truck company sometimes pays the consignee to unload, it does figure in to the shipping rate. So the consignee is actually paying, albeit, indirectly. The other thing is, the load is not delivered until the freight is on the consignees dock, just like when you order bottled water from Sparkletts, the delivery guy brings it to your doorstep, maybe even inside. He doesn't tell you to come out to his truck and wrestle it off yourself, right ? Same with UPS/Fed-ex or the U/S. Mail......delivered to your door.
Lumpers Fees??

You sound just like me when I am forced to pay a lumper.Sure we the company driver have to pay it but that's not the point. They charge either by the pound or pallets. These grocery warehouses have certain times they unload and you're looking at waiting hrs before they're finally finished.Walmart DC charges$50.00.But you're with Werner so I imagine most your loads are drop and hook. One time at Physco my appt was 6 am I get there get a door and finally 3 pm or there abouts they were done.Kept going inside wondering when they would be done.Always short of help and the ever popular on brk.

The size of your company should not matter, it's how organized the company and dispatcher are. Every company that i have worked for had there dispatcher's take home all the office needs to take care of matters like yours when after hours.

It would really be nice if we could unload ourselves and get paid the lumper money. Some places I go to charge $180 to unload 20 pallets.
