Food grade doesn't pay much . We lost a food grade contract to Prime in Chattanooga and were glad to be rid of it because the rate was so low .
Primes superlight trucks and 50 m.p.h. hypermiler drivers allowed them to bid it even cheaper .
.
There are good tank carriers and bad ones . I work for one of the good ones . We haul mostly chemicals but never have to wear a chemical suit because customers handle unloading . Most loads have dedicated trailers that return empty to the home terminal . The 168 hours between restarts is really going to hurt us . We usually are home on weekends and have over 60 hours in from Sunday to Friday .
Some loads pay really well . We have a drop and hook that is just over 600 miles in each direction . It can't be done in 2 days with e-logs because we have to weigh both trailers at a Pilot 20 minutes from the customer . The load pays the driver $475 going out , $325 coming back .
There is a local drop and hook from Texas City to Houston and back . 40 miles each way and pays $100 . -
Again this is my ignorance as a newer driver, so I apologize........but if it's the same product, in same equipment, would you need to weigh each load, I would think that they would max the tanks out and if it's the same product, the weight would never change?.....unless, the chemical you haul contains air or other inconsistencies?
Lucray: sorry for walking over your thread, I guess I should start a new tank thread........I think I will! -
Yes , I carry it but don't need it because I don't lump .
-
Sometimes the weighing is a waste of time because the shippers weighs the trailer and charges by their weight . Trailers aren't maxed because they would be overweight . Trailers are loaded my meters but they aren't exact . Not every drop of product gets unloaded .

And if he doesn't have a card on his person? Or if he refuses to show his SS number to a jagoff truck driver he doesn't know from Adam (as I would)? Then what?
-
Thanks for this information. By max, I mean max amount of product you could safely and legally haul........I just assumed at those rates, they would want to make sure that they got all the bang for their buck.
Im going to start a another thread on my next break, got some more questions.
I gotta get moving, my 10 is up! Be safe driver! -
I agree...I wouldnt show my SS card to some random truck driver....Not a chance.
I wont even give my CDL # to shippers and receivers...I either make a number up, or use my employe ID#. -
Don't know and don't care . If the company pays for it it's not the drivers problem but he'd better get some documentation if he puts out cash and expects reimbursement . It's best if the company pays by Comcheck and the Comcheck should be paid to the receiver or lumper not the driver .

+1

Identify theft is too easy and there are far too many low lifes that gravitate toward this industry. I don't give my personal info to anyone I don't know unless they're sitting behind a desk and their name is on my paycheck.
