Lunper fees?!

Not me. I finally saw the light about four years ago and moved over to the flatbed world, where things make sense.

 

The concept of lumpers makes no sense to me, but it’s not my money, so I don’t worry about it.

 

Not me, I ride a desk these days... right across the aisle from the billing lady who handles the lumper receipts.

She's nice... until you don't get her a receipt in 24 hours.

 

Boston (Chelsea) market was $30 last I was in there a few years ago, I hate produce.

doing LTL I have an electric jack I keep on the trailer for the places that don’t force you to use a lumper (or the places I don’t feel like doing it)

 

Own a lumping company?

Dont know how i could be more clear, lumper fees are ridiculous schemes set up to evade taxes, provide terrible quality of service to both the receiving company and the drivers, waste time and money by enriching a buddy. That they may no longer be run by the shipping clerks friend is a further black mark on any company stupid enough to continue to use such a "service"

Why in the world would I hire an outside company who will bring in their own workers in order to do work on my product that exclusively happens in my own warehouse?

At BEST its a shell company thats wholly controlled by the receiver and theyre just sheilding themselves from having to offer any real benefits to the dockworkers and can just spin down the company if anyone gets hurt and replace with a different company.

Thats the situation, its beyond beleif that anyone accepts it, and your white-knighting for it as perfectly acceptable is flabbergasting

 

I had the misfortune to deal with it once, im a flatbedder, i ran a box load as a favor to the guy im leased on with, so i started looking into the origins and history of it all. I can hate something stupid for its stupidity on other peoples behalf

 

I've never, and will never, pay a lumper fee. They don't exist in tanker world that I'm aware of...

 

I’m not Wasted Thyme, but you weren’t clear to me, either, your comment about lease-to-own made no sense.

I’d hardly call his post “white-knighting” for companies using lumpers. He, like me and thousands of other drivers who deliver to places that use a lumper service (instead of having those folks on their own payroll) deal with the situation as it happens. We just drive the truck, we don’t get to tell our company or our company’s customers how to handle their payroll or personnel issues. I assume that there must be some kind of financial benefit for the company to use them, and unless you want the government to outlaw the practice, I don’t see how your opinion, or mine, or Wasted Thyme’s is going to matter to them. It’s sure not going to change what they’re doing.
