Mack Vs. Peterbilt

I'll take Pete's comfort and style over any Mack for highway driving.

If I'm gonna be off road or only on secondary roads, gimme a Mack hands down.

 

Where in the world did you get the idea Macks are more hand built ? Maybe they are built in the USA but they are owned by Volvo . They were owned by Renault from 1987 until 2001 when Volvo bought Renault Trucks .I've had Mack service done in KY , IN , OH , and ON . The only shop that gave decent service was Cambridge Mack in Cambridge , Ontario . Every other shop screwed up and caused additional downtime .

 

Hi BigD: In "their day", Mack was the truck to own if going off road. But like everything these days, nothing is like they used to be...
As Rick said, Mack are nothing but a glorified Volvo. Some will argue with me, but nothing is built like it used to be.

 

I'll bet you just watched a discovery channel/history channel type program about a big truck assembly factory. They're all built the same today CHEAP

Exactly!! Long gone are the old days where Mack was built to be tuff and last.

First of all I'm a truck lover in general. I like all makes and models. I see the good and bad of each one. I have been driving for 17+ years and for the first 16.5 I had never driven a Peterbuilt. I thought they looked nice but were no better than any other. Then earlier this year I was given a 2005 379 to drive. Hands down this was the best truck Ive ever driven and it had 800K+ on it. Nicest ride, quietest, most comfortable truck Ive ever drove. As a driver that ain't afraid to turn some wrenches I think the Pete is a very well designed and well built truck. Much easier to work on than most others. I really liked the Pete very much.
We have two 2011 mack Pinnicals where I work now. They are nice looking trucks and nice rideing. Quiet too. The M-P8 runs nice but has terrible throttle control making them very hard to shift. The slightest tap on the fuel to down shift and it revs to 2100rpm. Other than that the only problem I see is their is just to much electronics. After a few year of service I can see problems that will be expensive and cause down time. I know all new trucks have a lot of electronics but the Mack seems to have more. I don't see these trucks being around for long. I think they will nickel and dime the company to death in a few years.
Its to bad Mack has become just another electronic cookie cutter truck. Back in the 90s I drove a lot of R model an DM Macks. Nothing fancy. Just good old work trucks. These trucks were the Macks that would last 30 years. Were built heavy duty. Push through the mud and ruts with out a whimper and didn't take a rocket scientist to work on.
Years ago Macks were the toughest of the tough. Today their just another truck. Probably no better or no worse than any other. Given the choice between a "new" Mack or a Peterbilt Ill take a Pete any day!

 

Mack left the Lehigh Valley. All that's left is the Macungie plant.

Even moved their headquarters finally.

So much for loyalty from the company to the community.

I have many years in old Macks.

My dad and my friends dad's worked for Mack Trucks.

Screw Mack Trucks! I'd never buy one. Too much Volvo blood in them now.
