Pete, the reason for me not maintaining this thread was because I was having mixed feelings about ACT. While I liked working for ACT as a company, things did not work for me due to the fact that in order for me to make enough money to support my family, I had to stay out between 4 to 6 weeks at a time. This was creating an incredible hardship on my wife and kids, and in turn on me as well. Before you try to get on me about wanting to go home and that I should have realized that I would not be able to go home because of a lease purchase, you can stop right there... I have seen your posts on your thread, and while I don't agree with that statement, your thread is informative. I work to live, not live to work. I have a wife and small children and there should be no reason for having to stay out for that length of time in order to be profitable.

I never turned down loads, and ran my truck between 58 to 60 mph and got good fuel mileage. But when the miles are not plentiful, the income can be low. I would only average about 2200 to 2400 miles a week, so I was getting frustrated that the miles were not there. Let's face it, we get paid by the mile not by the miles per gallon that ACT believes in. It was tough when on the weeks that I would go home I would only get about 1700 miles, and the weeks that I came back out I was lucky to get 2000 miles. Tell me why this is? Why be punished because you want to let your wife and kids know that you still remember where home is?

Now, I will not fault you or Bigkid for using this website as a recruiting tool, but I wish that you guys would be honest with potential drivers that the numbers you guys quote are with your recruiting bonuses. I was with ACT for 5 months and only had one recruit (who left only after 6 weeks because of not making money) and in this time I only averaged $1034 a week. Keep in mind, I did not turn down loads and was never late to deliver or pick up a load. I stayed out for anywheres between 4 to 6 weeks, only taking 3-4 days off when I did get the chance to go home and still averaged this amount. By the way, I was not blessed like you guys continually claim to be by getting routed thru the house. I live in the DFW area, yet I was always dispatched to the east coast.

In closing, I am not bashing on ACT. They are a fair company and there are guys that are paying off their trucks at the end of their leases. For me it just did not work out. I am not looking to start a pi$$ing match, but I felt that I should express my feelings and to inform people of why things turned out as they did.

I've said before not every company fits every driver. I don't have a thread here.net trying to recruit anyone. I run about the same miles you did and do well on money. But I like you mentioned am one of the lucky ones who is home all the time. The longest I've been away from home here is 9 days. So for me they work perfect. I hope you found something that's better for you.

Hey Boss Hoss,I was wondering what happened to you.I know some guy's get on here when they're looking for a job, then don't have a computer in their truck.Anyway I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out.I live in the DFW area myself and don't get by the house a whole lot,a day here and night there. One thing I will mention,is that all my #'s on my thread are true and have no recruit money in them,as I've never recruited anyone yet.I have a guy that's starting monday but He is yet to be employed at ACT.Bigkid has recruited alot of guy's and his income reflect's that.If you've read my thread that's why I make about half of what he does.If you have read my whole thread then you also know how I feel about people with family's that probably need them at home vs. being on the road constantly.I'm certainly not going to bash you for that,it's probably the smartest thing you could do.

The only thing I ask is that you don't acuse me of lying about my income or other matters such as recruiting because my thread has been open and honest about every dime I've made at ACT,my cost and overall experiance so far.I'm a old guy,I'm just trying to payoff a truck and then be able to run as hard or easy as I want to 3 1/2 yrs from now.

I have the upmost respect for you and what you just wrote and I thank you for respecting me as well with my previous post. I meant no ill will on you for your posts and as I stated before, I believe that it has been very informative and true. I'm sorry that I looped you in with my statement about Bigkid and the numbers that he reports. I fell for those statements when he recruited me, and it rubbed me raw for a while. I'm an old dog too, so I have since gotten over it and just chalked this up as a learning experience.

I hope that you and everybody else associated with ACT are nothing but profitable and successful. Good luck!

I did not lie to you. I told you to check my numbers at the beginning of my thread and those should be what you make at ACT without having any recruits. Those numbers were 2300-2400 miles and $1200 a week after expenses. That is what I was making without recruits. You said you were getting those miles and averaging just over $1000 a week so the only difference is from you getting worse fuel mileage than I did. I am in the top 10 for fuel mileage every quarter and I told you what to do to get that high but you said you could not run that slow. I did not really start getting a lot of recruits until after you started. Funny nobody else I have recruited has ever said I lied to them.
