If you like coils look into Kaplan ... They have some agents that way

I was thinking this exact thing. Kaplan is a great steel hauling company and many of the agents are very good at what they do.

We started doing a lot with Kaplan but it was challenging that the agent couldn't see past that day or the next on what loads they wanted to book. So we now work with the source or the 3PL managing these accounts. If you are hauling coils, even for Kaplan, get on the list from the shipper so you can see what is being shipped 3-5 days out and the rate. You will also see the HOT loads that are paying better and may decide to go to a different area when you see some of those rates.

Again just thinking out loud, I'm not a guy that only wants to load/unload once or twice a week. Them 5-600 mile runs over night are supposed to pay better, and i dont mind the work.

OK, not going to drop my shorts and give it all away but here are just a couple examples. Miles are about as close to hub as you can get.

    35.7k 312 T 2 coils 873.60+ (fuel is at $.51)
    22.4K 212 T 1 coils 712.32+
    32.1K 672 T 3 coils 1152.12+
    42.3K 488 T ??? 1024.33+

None of these are hot loads. All are into markets that you can reload. Seems the rates drop off on a per mile basis at 400 miles. This account will even pay FSC back in you take back to back short hauls.

I will say it gets frustrating when a larger company will just say "We will take them all" but have to broker most of them. And worse, an independent broker takes them for a company, takes a cut before it is passed to the driver working on %. Legalized skimming.

I personally have stopped running coils for brokers and have gone straight to the shipper ....my rates are along the same lines ... I would suggest a sidekit, or slider if you plan on running multiple loads per day
