Maersk is a powerhouse in the world. None bigger except maybe Evergreen.

Container people are buying one another. Maersk Sealand was the original and will be the last standing when it's all over.

It's port/drayage work. Maersk is a shipping line and doesn't operate a trucking company, at least in the states.

YEa, Containers are only a 60's invention. Early versions date even further back to where the Alphabet Railroads in the midwest and north east invented container on flatcar which was essentially truck trailers without wheels for overnight Chicago service and ports east. Those date the late 50's

Everything before that dating to the Roman Empire is break bulk. Where a strong hearty teenagers will grow to adult hood moving stuff from bigger boxes to smaller boxes all day or all night under the shouted curses by the Longshoremen bosses of the long house.

Someone got the bright idea to box everything up one time in say China and ship it to Europe without unloading, reloading, loading, unloading etc.

Entire trains on what we call the Landbridge race European boxes east from the west coast ports faster than the ships can deliver them. However... the 10 day schedule is beginning to crumble under the new post panamax ships coming round the Horn at greater than 20 knots and carrying essentially a mountain equal to 15 to 20 thousand TEU (Transporter Equivilant Units when expressed in 20 foot boxes.)

53 foot boxes you see on Union Pacific Stack Train is domestic boxes. 48'sdm 45's and 40's down to 20's go to Europe asap. By transloading direct to ship by crane in a facility called Seagirt. We are in a time of relative peace so the ports are not whipping people and cranes 24/7 maxed out. Yet.

Russia is massing near Eastern Ukraine this hour as I write this. Internet is completely out there. And checkpoints everywhere control the People not inclined to help the Russian.

IF they strike west with a shock army into Ukraine, we will need about a day to start rounding up ships and flatcars to roll boxes and munitions plus armor to the points wherever they will be. About half a day to whistle out the airliners, strip the seats and stuff some of the larger ones with 20 foot boxes and fly a air bridge to get this started. Memphis will be the first to empty out under airlift agreements with the Military. The carriers will need about three days to flush if they did not already warp out on springs and tow each other to the sea first.

The rest of it will have to start moving within 5 days in Mountain Home AFB first, Malmstorm second then Fort Hood and Cambells along with Polk and others will start to flush the heavy army.

And after that? I cannot see that far in the future. We might not have that long.

Enjoy your evening. You older ones have already lived this life, 30 minutes between heaven and hell gauranteed by missile.
