I want to thank all the Magnum drivers here for all of the great info and @runningman0661 for taking the time to pm me and answer questions. I just graduated my CDL school today and I head up to Fargo for orientation this Sunday. I got to talk to my trainer today and I should be on the truck by this coming Thursday/Friday. Maybe I'll see some of y'all around Fargo while I'm there.
cdavis188, runningman0661, enicolasy and 2 others Thank this. -
Welcome and let us know how orientation and training are going and feel free to ask for help any time you need it.
Cheers -
Plenty of 2017's being delivered, all EPIQ packages...from what I understand the 31st truck will be where the manual transmissions start...
cdavis188, WalterSobchak, Lwood53 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Not a bad idea, might try it if there's time. They should at least be able to recognize a rest area icon and a scale icon, but you would be amazed at what shows up sometimes. Hell, I had one guy who didn't even know where the Mississippi runs. Can only hire what walks in the door.
With a gps built into the dash plus downloading all my bookmarks onto the Rand Mcnally I strongly suggest they buy with the bonus money before getting out of the truck, they should be covered. The gps is such a valuable tool for trip planning, finding truck stops, Walmarts, etc., wouldn't even bother going without it these days, so I usually concentrate on teaching that along with its quirks. Some have gotten by with a smart phone till the cash comes in though, trainees are usually dead broke. Should have one of those too just for Google Maps to check sat views of shippers/receivers.
Sure glad the fist-full of quarters days are gone.Last edited: Apr 23, 2016

After I spend more time with my new AMT, I'll write a little review of what it's like to drive the new Magnum EPIQ, there are definitely pluses and minuses...

I would have liked to be able to have planned my trip. I was always told where we were stopping for the day. I'm good now, but when I got on my own at first it was very stressful.
