Marine band IS on VHF but so are many other services like MURS.....

" It is the FCC that is holding them back " HUMMM ..... If you go read the rules there is no law stoping the techs from boosting your radio since there is no law requireing you have a license to service CB radios the law applys to the USER and he gets the fine .....

Cbers need to understand 10 meters is HAM ONLY WORLD WIDE the FCC can't change that so any talk of allowing CB up on 10 is comming from uninformed people.... Like I said there are no changes comming for CB ....

Among some of the reasons they DON'T do this:

1: The equipment now used by CBers/truckers, particularly amplifiers, are NOT filtered to prevent splatter into other bands---one of which WOULD be 10 Meters.

2: Interference not only to domestic stations on adjacent channels, but the increase of interference to other services in other countries. Remember: 27 MHZ is NOT just assigned in the USA, but other countries use it for completely different purposes.

3: High RF power can be DANGEROUS in a number of ways. Not only can it be dangerous to mess with in the equipment itself, but it can present a danger to the untrained users who are exposed to high RF powers. We are talking about what amounts to a consumer appliance that the public can just buy, install, and use with little or no instruction. You complain about "I don't wanna take no test", but it is the REASON that hams DO have to take tests! It's so they can LEARN HOW to use electronic equipment correctly AND SAFELY. Did you know hams are required to do an "RF Survey" of their station and keep it on file to determine that they are not in too high an RF field (which could cause cancer---the jury is still debating it, however). They also learn that high power is NOT the do-all, BE-ALL of radio, and, in fact, there are MUCH better ways to achieve their objectives without it?

I know CB ops don't WANT to hear this........................but IF everyone observed the 4 watt rule and used some organization like it once was under licensing, everybody would be able to talk farther and achieve FAR more than if they ALL had 100, 200, 500 watts. I know you don't believe me, but higher power would only make things WORSE, not better!!!!!!!!! By removing the rules, more people would be using power they don't have a clue about. Remember that awful howling-----SCREE, HOWWWWWL, ROOOAAAARRRRRRRRRRR that comes in when "skip" is in? You are DOING it to YOURSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some people LOVE that racket, tho, for the life of me I can't imagine why.

CB radio will NEVER get "more" of anything, that's just a fact. It is, according to the way of thinking of the regulatory authorities and because of technical fact. In a real sense, CB died after 1980 or so after the peak of the 70's. There was a rapid surge of communication technology from Fax, to Voicemail, to Cellphones, to computers, Email, text messages. This caught the imagination of the public. They will NEVER go back to CB radio; it is an outdated technology clung to by a small (relatively) segment of the population. Look at a CB radio from 1960, or '65 and look at one from today. It is about the same. The only "improvements" (if you call them that) the builders have to offer is an ILLEGAL so-called "10 Meter" radio whose selling point is the ability to STEAL frequencies from another legitimate service. Then CBers want more power, the effect of which is MORE interference to themselves AND other services, and can't understand why they can't get it (legally).
