I havent broken mine down to CPM, but last year I spent roughly $27k between upgrades, P/M's maintenance and repairs to get the truck where I wanted it to be for this year. This year was supposed to be an easy year for me as the truck was so good mechanically, I didnt anticipate any major repairs. Was just going to do PM's this year.
This year truck has been down just over 3 months between 2 different situations. One was body damage repair from another company truck who backed into me at a truck stop. Had just got back on the road and 2 weeks later I ran the motor hot, cracked the head. I'll be picking it up Thursday. New head and inframe. 04 CAT C15 BXS ACERT motor,.. I dont even want to post what this just cost me in terms of lost revenue and actual parts and repair work. Good news is it should be good for another million+.
I bought the truck with a lot of miles and knew something like this was in the future. Almost all of the money I had been saving is gone. The only account I didnt have to dip into was for a new trailer I was saving for. Barely $5k in there. Will be coming back on the road using my carriers fuel card and barely $10k cash. Its like starting all over again.
I mitigated my down time by running my carriers truck as a company driver. Was the only way to really survive this,.. else I would have gone completely broke.

You sound like you got my kinda luck . Wow.
Hurst Thanks this. -
Its all part of trucking IMO.
You take the bad with the good. The idea of buying another truck with unknown issues/problem vs knowing what I have spent in my truck and what it is now after the new motor and warranty. I think I would have spent more on another truck with less insurance that it would be reliable for me.
So this year will suck for me as far as my NET income,.. I'll survive and next year (Hopefully) will be a great year for me.
To survive in this business I think guys need to be able to hang in and endure through any struggles to see beyond their current situation.

I spent just over a year in a union shop and I will NEVER work for a unionized company ever again! Unions today are are about as bad as politicians. Nothing but empty promises and stealing your money IMO.lots of character Thanks this.

I have a 2003 Peterbilt. I bought it new. 1.1 million miles. The last few years I averaged about $.11/mile for maintenance /repairs. I've been lucky. Plus I do regular maintenance and don't abuse it. But my days
Of big repair bills will come. Most of my truck is original. Or maybe I'll get a glider first. -
Sorry to hear about that Hurst, but you know what? The money that you spent wasn't really yours. It belonged to the truck. You saved it because you knew something like this might happen and it did. You are on schedule and on budget.
You are apparently fiscally responsible and an astute business person that managed to survive what would have bankrupted many others.
Congratulations. -
To answer the OP's Q, it can cost $5,000 or $20,000 depending on whether you have a driver OTR in a 2008 DPF truck or if you drive your own pre-emissions truck and can fix stuff yourself.

RERM Thanks this. -
Based on buying New truck's after 5 years I average out at $0.136 per mile with the 5th year being the most cost per mile, so 1 reason its usually gone in the 4th year with most fleets
