ya see.......?? we ain't all bad.........just misunderstood.......... we have a LOT of responsibility as an instructor. your safety, ours and the general public. we have to watch out for what YOU DO......... we have a "stake" in your future. we have to be tough, not gentle. we "condition you" to the harsh realities of what can happen to you on the roads, and the consequences of your actions. we MUST make sure you understand that the mirrors on a truck are there for a reason other than to look at yourself. the tougher we are on you, the more you will be "conditioned" to expect the unexpected. we are much like your first car..........your first lover.........your first whatever...........you never forget your first........... ok, don't put us in the same category as your first lover..........that's just plain weird............!!!!!!! as i don't love my students....... but some double chocolate donuts and coffee...........i might reconsider..........
One student in my class was called to the office after two weeks. He was offered half of his tuition refunded, or he could continue to the end of the course without a guarantee of a certificate. He dropped out and we never saw him again. He did not have sufficient coordination to drive a rig.
.....respond to different training techniques. My school had two "road trainers". One lady driver and one man driver. I was unfortunate enough to have been assigned the "lady" trainer and she was AWFUL. She was constantly screaming at us for every little mistake to the point that I couldn't concentrate on what the hell I was trying to do. Finally, after a week of grinding gears all over town, I got put into the other trainer's truck. He was the OPPOSITE of the lady trainer. If I missed a gear or forgot to double clutch he would calmly offer some helpful advice and remind me to relax. In only one afternoon with this guy I FINALLY got it down pat. The next day, I was put back in the lady trainer's truck, and after driving around for about 20 minutes she said "What happened? You're like a completely different person! You are actually doing it correctly!". I said "the other trainer taught me correctly"
