Ill tell you what else kills...surge!!!! How are any of us still alive?
For all of your examples. Panic braking, sudden evasive moves tell me this. What are you going to do about the surge? Are you going to go back there and tell it that you respect it and get it to calm down. If it hits it hits. You can fear, respect or make a big deal about it but in a situation like that you are not going to stop it. It will surge.......and probably kill you.

If Jesus could calm a stormy sea, surely us tanker drivers can calm down a bit of surge...lolLast edited by a moderator: Aug 24, 2013

Somehow the quote tags got mixed up. Either way that was a personal attack and is not allowed here. This bickering needs to stop now!jlpreach, 123456 and BullJockey Thank this. -
For the record and to agree with wsyrob, the quote in post #53 was NOT made by me! I haven't even begun hauling tankers yet. What do I know about the effects of surge? Nothing!

Much HazMat bulk, such as diesel, have baffles. Many other bulks do not. I'm a fuel driver. We have baffles. Compared to driving milk (for the sake of argument), we have practically no surge.Last edited by a moderator: Aug 24, 2013

I cleaned up the most recent ones.

RevKev, I hauled a few loads of acid to Kingsport to Kodak. Good people there to deal with. All our tanks were smooth bore & no problems if you keep your mind on what you're doing. We also hauled dry bulk, which I liked at times, depending on where the run was going to. When I had a choice, I picked the run with the best miles & didn't care if it was liquid or dry.

Yep, Chinatown, I was in & out of Eastman in Kingsport a few times last week! Now I'm in Cowpens, SC getting trained on dry bulk.

Haul a load of clear slurry. 18.6 pounds per gallon (2450 gal) and in a 7500 gal chem tank. You will learn the true definition of "Surge".:smt074
