That's sad. He seemed like a decent guy. Never saw his name in the news for doing anything stupid. The ocean can kill you quickly if you don't know what you are doing. When I was 15, I swam out at Sandy Beach in Oahu without any fins or bodysurfing experience when I had no business being out there. Fortunately, everything turned out OK.
