How would you describe a manager's role in helping you with safety technologies?

What manager? A fleet manager? After 40 years of this nonsense I put my fleet manager in the same category as the person who emptied the garbage cans. Can’t do the job hired for, let alone trying to make them multitask.

The role...on both sides...is complicated and never ending. Your question is too broad. Give us some specific examples and we'll be able to help answer your questions

And probably never seen the inside of a truck besides in pictures. Then brags at the country club about being a boss.

hmmm ..... it's a broad question . Are you asking as a Safety Manager ?? as a Operations Manager , or as a Equipment Manager ??
Their are lots of moving parts in a trucking company and it also depends on what type of work you doing .
( ie - a fuel hauling company has to do a lot of more hazmat paperwork than a dump truck company ).
As far as a safety manager - insp protocols , DOT protocols ,record/permitting status of vehicles / Trlrs / Drivers protocols , you should also know how to do what your managing .( if your trying to show me how to use a ELD , you should be able to it , not just rely on a video .)
Same for all the other positions .
    good luck

Get them out of my truck and you (the safety manager) stay out of my way and leave me alone.

And stop lying to me. The inward facing driver cameras are not there for my protection, they're there to pin all the blame on the drivers if something goes wrong and to get the carrier discounts on their insurance, of which said discounts never get passed down to the actual drivers, who are the ones who have to deal with the cameras in their faces all day long.

Oh and your safety videos suck. They're not to make me a better driver, they're once again so the carrier can get a discount on their insurance, but somehow yet again that discount never gets passed down to the driver.

Last, DAC is ########. We need to create a DAC for office workers and let every other company the officer workers ever apply for in the future see every little thing they did wrong during their previous tenure in the office.

Now that I think about it, safety managers need cameras in their faces all day long as well, including outside their bedroom door at home. And make sure that you personally do not have access to the on and off switch of those cameras, and instead give that access to the drivers themselves. That way, you guys can feel part of the teamwork and camaraderie that your safety department fosters among the drivers. You know, "family" and all that.

    Does that answer your question?

My "manager" doesn't try to coach me on safety. She just sends loads to my tablet thank God..There's a whole department of people who make you watch lytx videos of yourself driving unsafe, called SAFETY.

Here’s the best response I can give towards this debate. As a 44 year driver of a class 8 vehicle, with in excess of 4 million safe miles, that I started my career back in1980 running LTL seafood through the 5 boroughs of the big bad city, never once having an accident, one ticket in this whole time, numerous DOT inspections that were all passed, I’ve put up with all this technology the last 10-12 years that has done not one thing to help me maneuver this truck safely. In fact, all it’s done for me specifically is give me an enormous headache. You want to talk technology? How about coming up with a device to help keep my windshield wipers from freezing up in the winter while I’m trying to get across Wyoming? How about getting the federal government to get on these state with split speed limits for cars and trucks? How about ending this BS of AI in these trucks to tell me I’m a distracted driver as I’m running down the road at 3am in the right lane doing the speed limit drinking a cup of coffee? As far as I’m concerned, a safety department in any trucking company is only needed for making sure I get reminded that my medical card needs to be renewed and to tell me I’ve been “randomly” selected for a drug screen, for the 3rd month in a row. Sorry dude, you’re not going to get me on your cheerleading team.

I have never had to work under a safety department like some of the stories I have heard, I would lose my mind if I had to put up with an AI camera in my face. I draw the line at running an E log, I’m still using paper. don’t get me wrong, I think there’s a place for technology. A truck just isn’t it. I’m happy if the technology in my truck stops at a working air conditioner, and power steering.
