You're completely right. I didn't take into regard the fact he could look for a small company. I just hope he can make it a year or even six months at CC making peanuts.

The responses you are getting in this thread are solid advice coming from guys already doing this every day. It may be a case of you are not seeing the big picture because you're not out here doing it yet. i believe it will make more sense to you once you start managing a DOT clock and learn your lanes. There's a lot of variables involved that dictate how to run and when. Some weeks I'm re-setting after 6 days and sometimes I'll run on recap for 2-3 weeks. The 34 is sometimes the only friend and partner you have out here. Use it wisely and your life is less stressful.

OP. Everyone runs the way they run. Well at least until December if OOIDA loses. But anyway, I run pretty hard. Solo or team, if you are really getting after it, your going to welcome a 34.
When you can take the valve stem cap from my palm, you will have learned.
Hit 'em boys..........
SidewaysBentHalo and RedRover Thank this. -
The fact is that maximizing your hours means using a 34 hour reset. Some companies will not run you enough to do that, so make sure you understand how the HOS work so you know what you will have available when when you can't take a reset.RedRover Thanks this. -
Redrover dude. The fact you have a felony is a good reason to possibly NOT pay out of pocket for school. In Texas they call it "employment barriers". That's how I went to school. State paid for it.
Check with the unemployment office for details. Lots of hoops to jump thru.
Best of luck.
As far as hours, we finally started driving about 8-9 hrs a day then run on recap. Those 34 hr resets sucked. -
Still need to get the cdl first I guess.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
When you get your cdl try covenant. They hired me when the others wouldn't. Better than Carolina cargo by a long shot.
RedRover Thanks this. -

I look at my hours 2 different ways...
First, if I'm runnin to reset. We have plenty of loads and plenty of work. I'll run hard sometime burning my 70 up in just 6 days. That's literally on duty minimal amounts. I'll hurry and reset and get goin again as my recap won't be for a couple of days...
Now say your running but being stalked up here and there and have some extra hours. I'll calculate how far I can be on recapping hours at the point of me getting my hours back. Usually when I'm doing this j can be a full shift or 700 miles further going into recap..
I look at my situations and decide which one will mKe me more moneyRedRover Thanks this. -
