Drove an Ultrashift all night. 12 hours. Hate the way it takes off. Hate the way it backs. Not a deal breaker. Drive it or go home and give up $300+. But I will be soooo happy Monday to get my Volvo 12 spd I Shift back. Only thing I preferred about Shaker w/Ultra was the Sears seat and it will run 73 vs 71 in Volvo. They are primitive as far as performance goes. Weak DD13 can't start to pull like D-13 Volvo either. Would still prefer to 10spd manual. But would chunk Ultra for 13/18. Volvo I shift is clear hands down winner to any manual for tanker around town and up to say 250 miles. Long runs either would be fine.

They do practice their whole careers. Medicine is forever changing with new drugs and new treatments. You're never done learning. The same for practicing law.

I would never drive for a company that had 1.) trucks with automatic transmissions 2.) elogs. But then I own my own truck so.... Oh, and I pulled a tanker for a year. Food grade at that. If you know how to drive a truck, a manual would not be a problem no matter what you pull.

No automatic for me in a big truck. But I'm old school. I cannot imagine being on a wet or slippery surface without the full control of a manual. I'm partial to a 15 speed Roadranger.

For running in the west be it summer or winter, manual, hands down. The automatic I'm currently driving not operating sucks. Picture this, you must pick a gear for manual . You cannot shift it down or up . Your on slick black ice and then as ya speed up on the downhill, it nicely turns on the Jakes ! Who thought of this idea never drove a truck in his life. And if your touching that clutch more that 1st and reverse, have a truck driver operator teach ya how to do it. Personally I want to slap the SOB who thought of this brilliant idea. I know it saves fuel costs and time in teaching kids how to operate this thing. But once again, its all about the freight not your life that matters most...

The only time manuals suck is in traffic. Normal driving they're not bad. I still prefer my auto though.

I like my auto so I can keep my right hand in my pants like Al Bundy while driving.

I like my manual. It keeps me entertained in a traffic jam, and it is nice to know that I can pick an appropriate gear for a given speed limit and not worry about accidentally speeding.

Or you could set your cruise control and when you no longer hear your engine you know that you are going faster than the set speed.

Automatics still have the option of going into manual mode if you really want to get a specific gear for certain situations.
