Check around your area that have cdl schools offering a refresher course. Probably will be a 40 hr. 5 day course. Do the refresher in a manual transmission, then you can get the restriction dropped after the road test.

Aamcotrans Thanks this.

You can learn to shift those things well enough to pass the road test in a few days practicing half an hour or an hour.

You do not test with just a Automatic. YOU KNOW this now. But this is for the benefit of the 10,000 other students who have not yet learned that little gem and are in trucking school without a manual truck to test on when the time comes to go to the DMV.
Retest in a manual 18 wheeler with the airbrakes etc. You might have to find a school to provide you one for that purpose in addition to being taught how to manage a manual transmission.buddyd157 Thanks this. -
Are you even a truck driver ?

as another member said, this is why we tell people to NOT get tested on automatics, but seemingly, not too many listen to us, as they are either afraid to learn how to shift, or think the only jobs they will ever get is with automatics...it just ain't gonna happen.
i'd like to see this thread as a "sticky", so in the future, when someone says they want to drive automatics, we can refer them back to this, with out going crazy finding it...
