Gee Lux....I thought you knew so much about F1. Hmm. Obviously just another internet know-it-all that really knows nothing. Again I ask, what is the big flipping deal about shifting a truck? You guys crack me up. You want to drive trucks but you don't even care to learn how to shift manual. The worst part is you think you are above it. Got news for ya...you ain't. Better learn unless you wanna work for one of those mega's...then maybe that's exactly where you should be.

Real bad attitude. I can just imagine you know it alls going to a job interview....."When you hire me, I demand an auto because I am smarter than you boss and I know more about spec'ing trucks, insurance rates, safety, cost of operation etc etc etc. I know autos are better because all the F1 cars use them."

PAAAAAAA-LEEEEEEESE GET OVER YOURSELVES KNOW IT ALLS BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW NUTHIN'

The new dream gig, is going to look at your training . You were only trained on a auto? You end up in a spot , you need a refresher course, hoping they do not see you as a greenhorn, no matter how many years you have. This why I say it is best to learn to shift, then drive what ever they toss you the keys to. Nothing wrong with autos , just maximizing your potential !

Simple as this, limit yourself to an auto but when you get that sweet local job offer & on the road test you're searching & grinding gears, stalling out & dropping the clutch then what?? Back to driving I-shift Volvo's & Ultra Shifts for .32 cents a mile? But I'm a "Supertrucker" I'll keep my 13 spd for the rest of my driving career

Because that's not true , not even close. Those are the guys that made the choice to not take care of themselves , eat like pigs , not exercise and become way , way over-weight. I'm 65 years old , only job I ever had was driving a truck...and I'll wager that there are some of even the 20 somethings on this forum that would be pressed to keep-up with me in the deer-woods. Or the garden or anywhere else....Choices matter.....Lux....especially those you make concerning your lifestyle.

...and yet we have reports of old-timers with knee and shoulder problems from shifting telling us they like the new autos...

Dude, I can make your head swim about F1; even then, there's plenty I don't know and may never know. And I have other experiences that factor in, as well.

Secondly: I plan on learning anything and everything I possibly can about trucking, including shifting. I won't demand a single thing when I do get my job, and I'll do my job to the best of my ability and as safely as humanly possible. One of the reasons I'm here on this forum (and others) now is to learn anything I can ahead of time, so I'm not too surprised when something hits (like the u-turn scenario, or the tandems that broke loose) and how to handle it.

Thirdly: I do like to think I have at least half a functional brain, and a decent work attitude to go with it, coupled with my driving skills (again, pretty good IMHO), and I think it'll make for a decent steering wheel holder.

Now that you know the truth about me, carry on with your derogatory remarks. ;-)
