Technology is seeking to take the human element out of most industries, very rapidly. One only has to look at aviation, farming and railroading to understand where they are headed now, with autos in trucks. Along the way, also, reducing the skill required, (dumb us all down) and the pay goes with it. A monkey does not get much respect or remuneration beyond an occasional banana.....
I will admit, I have never driven an auto in a big rig. For me.....shifting is half the fun. The job is already mundane. How many have family or friends at home who ask, "how can you stand to drive so much? It is so boring....)
My car, pickup, and motorcycles all have manual shifters....
As stated, advancements in the past where good for the most part, and designed to make our lives better and easier. But now....... technology is leapfrogging so quickly, that it will and already has started to remove the operator in some industries.... (I don't think most are trying to resist change, be a super trucker, more manly or put down those that like autos, but fully comprehend where this is all headed.)
Why would any professional not want others to be as talented as they are. That would show insecurity, not the other way around. Well anyways, make sure you hold on to your hat and for sure, that steering wheel....with both hands now of course.....as the future is here, and I do not see any good road signs ahead.

Very true. I don't know what is gonna happen in the future, Robots are taking over everything. Robots right now today drive forklifts, wrap pallets, and pick your order when you buy something on Amazon. Not in our lifetimes, but you can bet your last penny robots will be driving trucks otr within then next 100 years. I honestly don't know what people are going to do, the govt is going to just have to give everyone a set income or else there will be people dead in the streets of starvation with no jobs. The future is scary for real.

See your opinions are being formed by watching YouTube clips. I've driven every type of Auto, (Ultra Shift Eaton, The Older Eaton Auto, I-Shift, Forgetting the name of one i can't think off) and didn't like neither. Although the I-shift was probably the best out the bunch i didn't like it. Won't go as far as saying I hated but the factor of the matter is at times i didn't feel like i was in control of the truck, Even with putting it in the "manual mode".
And judging by your posts, you're not even a driver or was at one point and that wasn't even an Automatic. So how do you do all this gloatin and never driven one?
And riddle me this, why as an OTR driver is having an AUTO such a plus? If you're a city guy or hit a spot alot with plenty of lights, ok i get it. But how are you "so fatigue" by having shifting sessions maybe a few times a day? And don't give me the leg excuse with the clutch, learn how to float your gears like most truck drivers and you won't have that issue.
Again, if you guys love Auto's then BRAVO!!! But the reasoning why their so great is terrible. Most of you guys are rookies who are vouching for it.
Sadly it's getting that way. And the moron's that rely on there GPS and not picking up the CB or Calling the Customer Via Cell is making the "Super Truckers" even more appreciated and wanted. And I don't even know why I put "Picking up the CB".. 80% of the Newbies don't have one because there trainer who's been driving for a year says they don't need one.Last edited: Apr 26, 2014

Yes, that wylhorse guy likes to reference those YouTube loggers.....Joanie and Chachie or whatever they call themselves. Are they the two guys that have that interior decorator show on TLC?
Exactly. Clearly he/they have NO CLUE what they are talking about or they would realize it's not a big deal. They hang out here in the "new driver" forum because anyone with any experience can see them for what they are.Last edited: Apr 26, 2014
hawkjr Thanks this. -
I don't get it. How are brakes comparable to the discussion?

I am still waiting for the results of the search I suggested for you back in post #143.....and then again in #173.
I suppose the reason you've been ignoring that search is because you discovered that the forum is littered with stories about automatic problems. Earlier you said for every negative about auto's there will be one about manuals. So I will go first:
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...eelers/248079-smartshift10-speed-problem.html
another....
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...um/240367-mayday-stuck-md-first-gear-abs.html
and another...
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ers/247829-possessed-isx-exorcist-needed.html
yawn...
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...bilt-forum/247054-convert-auto-to-manual.html
starting to get funny now
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ase-help-my-automatic-transmission-truck.html
like shooting fish in a barrel
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...on-transmission-10-speed-autoshift-volvo.html
my wrist never bothered me from shifting but it sure does hurt clicking on all these auto trans problem threads...
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...52-2001-volvo-660-eaton-fuller-automatic.html
Now go find some manual trans problems.
You guys with all your talk about insecurity and dinosaurs is just more BS. I'll be waiting.Last edited: Apr 26, 2014

Who cares? Kinda makes you look like you live in your parent's basement when you mention them all the time like you do.
Seriously? Again I ask, what is so hard? I took a look at your last 100 posts. Not a single helpful post. It's all pro GPS, Pro E-log, Pro Auto Transmission, Pro Abe and you throw the term macho super trucker around when anyone disagrees with you. I wonder....do you even drive a truck?
EDIT: Never mind. I found my answer from your post below. Two days in truck driving school in 1993? Yep you know alot. LMAO what a joke.
I went to Truck Driving school in 1993 and after graduating went to Schneider, but due to life circumstances I knew trucking wasn't right for my life at that time. All I did was accept their offer, and go to Green Bay for two days, then I asked to go home saying trucking just wasn't right for me at the time. I haven't driven since then but have kept my cdl current. I am thinking of changing careers and trying trucking again; I know I will have to go back and attend a school all over again, since I need the training. My question is after I go to a school and graduate do you think Schneider would give me another chance or would they not re-hire me because I was with them for a short time in 1993 if you want to call it that, only two days lol. I left on nice good terms, they were friendly and all, just told them trucking wasn't right for me then.Last edited: Apr 27, 2014

So what if I am 15 years old and still in high school, I still have as much right to comment as you do. We will see who has the last laugh when the robots have taken over the world and the singularity is at hand. The robots that's who will have the last laugh my friends.

WOW someone's way out in left field

Allrighty then. I think you just put a nice punctuation mark on this thread. Could not have ended better. Thank you.
