After an incident that occurred at one of our yards in Ohio involving marijuana my area manager ask me to write this for our newsletter as I am totally against drugs such as marijuana and other type drugs......

As employees of a federally regulated industry that deals directly with Department of transportation laws, every driver should be aware that no matter what state you reside in and what it's laws are regarding drugs like marijuana....you cannot be employed and work in this industry if you use. No maybes...no grey areas...you use...you are done. This is not only federal law but company policy. The incident that lead up to my being ask to write this was a driver using during work time and when he left the truck..he left his pipe and substance in the vehicle which I was using after him for my route. Of course I immediately informed my dispatcher and not only was more pot found in his car but other harder drug which he was selling at the yard. Reporting a user and drugs found is not being a snitch...rat.. or other such words...law breakers and others like to use... you are being not only a great employee and responsible citizen but your actions could lead to saving lives down the road...literately. If you do not say something then you risk the fact that you could be blamed for it...because this is transportation an illegal substance. Same can be said for folks drinking on the job. Some of the worst accidents with planes...trains and even ships has been a result of someone using a drug...drinking or both. No matter your feelings on the issue of...should marijuana be legal or not...the fact is you cannot use and be in the transportation industry and that is law.

And if they found more harder drugs in his car that he was selling to his coworkers did your company give everyone a random that day to find out who was all involved? If so how many came up positive?

I'd have everyone on that yard tested under reasonable suspicion. Pop hot, you're gone. Refuse to test, you're gone. Management, drivers, janitor, doesn't matter.

Why report it? Just act like you didn't see it it's not your personal business and that's a great way to be known as the company rat. Idc what my co workers do. Drugs or drugs free none of my concern if it doesn't affect me directly. Should have left his pipe where it was..

Why is it assumed that people have some inalienable right to engage in illegal activity?
