These types of articles are useless. Even if what they claim is true, their studies dont control for the variable of people who use pot for problems that could later be diagnosed as the disease they claim is causes.

I wondered about it. The last real contact I had with VA was in the early 70s when I walked out of one of their hospitals AMA (against medical advice) . It wasn't totally AMA. My wife was an MD and she told me if I stayed there they were going to wind up making me worse, turning me into a zombie, or killing me. I believe she was right.
The doctors at the VA facility were either foreigners with severe language/communication problems or burn outs, druggies, and misfits with chronic personality disorders that couldn't practice anywhere else.
The nursing staff were either rookies just out of school or retired nurses augmenting their social security. It's hard to say which was more noticeable...the smell of liquor on the breath of the older ones or the smell of pot smoke on the rest of the staff. I'll give them this...when you could find one that wasn't napping or about to go off duty they were very pleasant to deal with. They didn't actually do anything but they were sociable.
What the staff really wanted was that all the combat vets load up on Thorazine and undergo voluntary commitment to the psych ward. They had a really big mental ward there.
I went to the VA for swollen tonsils. I didn't see where getting bombed out on drugs and getting locked up on an indefinite psych hold was going to solve my sore throat. I left.
A couple of years ago I read a newspaper story about our local VA clinic. Staff incompetency, 100 percent turnover rate, people working above their experience level, mis-diagnoses, malpractice, hideously long waits for care, drug use and alcoholism by the staff. I don't think they've made much progress. I don't need to go there so I'll give them a hard pass. I hope other areas have better facilities.

It seems to me it's about the same correlation as alcohol abuse and schizophrenia.

The take away I get is people who abuse substances are at a higher risk of schizophrenia and probably start abusing substances as a way of self medicating the initial schizophrenia symptoms.

I try to conduct myself here being respectful of others but I gotta say I'm getting a little tired of new members showing up here with somthing to prove and getting Assy with long term members here .
It's frustrating sometimes that we can't go postal on those individuals but I guess if that were permitted we would be back where we were before the mods cleaned house years ago .

I never considered Marijuana a "disorder".
Same with Hash as well Honey Oil.
No one I stumbled around with was ever out of order, just, sometimes, enjoying the star lit skies from the floor of a living room.

Paraquat was just another negative experience.
Mary's Herb worked well, after the pooping of the seeds, and the harsh throats required a WINCHELLS Donut run, usually on bicycles and MUCH safer.
After the munchies were satiated, a nice nap maybe on someone's front yard or a university campus, where no one was paying attention. :biggrin_25523:

Yep i drop it all the time ( at least every 15 minutes i'm awake) and people say i'm crazy , so maybe that explains the voices in my wifes head that tell me to do things . Like the man said - it's 4:20 somewheres
