    A quick PSA to all hazmat drivers. These ridiculous "marine pollutant" placards are
    completely unnecessary. So long as you're displaying a placard with the correct hazard class, packing group, and UN number there is no need to add these. In fact they are a liability, losing one in transit will put you in violation. Throw them away if the shipper gives them to you.

    I would think that just about anything that’s DOT regulated for transportation is a “marine pollutant” in some way.

    And if you refuse to apply the placard, the shipper can refuse to use you as the carrier. Also, if stopped for inspection and the inspector wants to be nitpicky, you could wind up parked until in compliance as they determine it. The article you linked is pretty cut apart and ambiguous.
