Type acceptance wouldn't permit a VFO.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Using logic and common sense if two radios are tuned by the same technician and two radios are tuned by a different technician whichever pair of radios can get the furthest distance apart as measured on the same antenna systems using the least amount of power and still maintain two-way communication that pair of radios was tuned by the best technician.
Anyone who tells you otherwise is deliberately ignoring the facts and deliberately trying to mislead you.
If Ridgeline is interested in referring me to another technician to test that technicians abilities I would be more than happy to put that technician to the test but as of yet this has never happened.Last edited: Nov 6, 2016

Ok if I understand this your radios are seeing 1.3 swr instead of the 3:1 you actually measure. How is this done? On my vhf radios if the swr measured with AA is above 2:1 they cut the power. I can have them in high power mode and they will only show low power out put on meter and not bring up repeaters I can hit consistantly from same distance when using high power with swr below 2:1. So I'm missing the boat some where. I realize swr is not the only issue but it does seem to be a factor. Mounting platform is a big deal. W900 was so much easier to deal with.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

Hey Rabbi, I'm in San Diego, would you be willing to put me in contact with your guy out here to tune a radio?
-
Are you ever by the TA in Ontario ? There’s Chris @ The CB Radio Shop on Guasti rd that’s a good Tech.
-
He had one done by Chris. He wasn't impressed. Fontana might be hit or miss. There's a guy in San Diego and Stringbean could put him in touch.YMItrucking and Diesel Dave Thank this.

Chris' radio wasnt bad, it just had alot of static in the receive, and he told me that it puts out 45w pep (no way). To be fair tho, I've had radios done by people all over the country and his was the best so far. I've got a radio coming from Mark (for the work truck) and was just looking for something for my offroad toy. Maybe I'll ask Mark about one of those Anytone's.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

That sounds like par for the course. Ask Diesel Dave how his receive noise is after getting it back from Ron in Fontana. These radios are pure garbage for listening right out of the box. Expect to pay big bucks to rectify that problem. Turning screws isn't going to make a massive improvement. Parts will need to be changed based on mathematical calculations and the value of those components will be unique to that specific radio to achieve identical results. If the installation isn't done a certain way using certain component, any gains in the receiver will be lost in the installation and you'll see no benefit. Doing it right gets expensive.Last edited: Mar 17, 2019
