The only static I get is from the steer hubs when driving but if surface is wet or apply brakes it dissapears. When I am parked no static at all( steely Dan song FM).

I just bought a Cobra 29 Chrome LTD at Loves for $119.99 plus $ 20.00 mail in rebate to replace my Bearcat 980, because the static level gets too bad when driving I sometimes have to lower rf gain to level 3 ( scale of 1 to 5) . The 29 has excellent low volume hiss when driving and with the NB/ANL on there is hardly any static at all and the recieve , as best I can tell, is just as good as the 980, and running it with stock modulation Im getting good reports, loud and clear. I know the built in swr meters are normally not accurate, but I do like to use them just to monitor any changes from day to day, but this meter doesnt even register at all and I know my swr is at least a 1.5, oh well still a nice AM only 40 channel radio for 100 bucks, but you all know that already.

yes and that's a average range sounds like what they were talking back to you on was quality equipment not junk like a lot of radio equipment out here.. people/drivers who have cb radio's but are not overly into it....
