DPF is almost impossible to ignite. it is nothing more than urea fertilizer and anhydrous ammonia mixed with water.
here is the MSDS sheet from one of the prominent DPF manufacturers in western Canada.

    You're thinking DEF.

DPF is the particulate filter that needs the 1000°F+ temperatures to regenerate.

Always happens when one trailer type doesnt drop as fast as others. But this time, unless they already have a flatbed theyre gonna have a hard time running out to buy one. I've seen some combos for sale but aluminum is tough to find right now. And theyre gonna pay through the nose for either one.

    Yes you are right.
I get so aggravated at some around who blame DEF as the worse thing that happened to modern diesel engines when in most cases today's engines are more efficient than the engines of the mid and late 2000s when EGR and even the first DPFs were what we had.

After I parked my 96 International I drove for a small company for 7 years hauling Ag products and chemicals and ran 2004 through 2016 trucks and the trucks with DEF systems were much less prone to breakdowns of the emission systems and on average the combined cost of fuel/DEF was somewhat less than the older trucks doing the same job.

Personally I'd like to see the SCR system completely replace EGR. Then we can hopefully ditch the DPF since EGR tends to create soot/smoke. Basically just run the SCR system with the DEF and nothing else. Have heard rumours this is in the works in the off-highway world. Not sure if or when it'll happen though.

So….. how come we haven’t seen any threads start up by guys asking how they can convert a van trailer into an open deck flat on the cheap?

Hopefully somebody has explained the physics of the different types of trailers to them if and when they asked that question.
