To maximize your CDL job opportunities later on -- avoid moving your next domicile to:

• California
• Florida (especially below I-10)
• the upper northeast (above/beyond PA)
• the east coast (including Long Island)
• extreme southern Texas (try to stay at/above I-10)

Generally speaking -- pretty good/decent places to currently look for CDL work would include (but are not limited to):

• Texas (except as noted above)
• eastern Tennessee

If (for example)...you are later domiciled in Texas -- carriers are more likely to give you loads that run in BOTH the eastern & western parts of the US (i.e., you won't likely be stuck with loads east of I-35) -- so you will likely get more experience running to different parts of the whole lower 48.

If you have a personal vehicle, register it at your friends address in Las Vegas, then you can have a Nevada cdl after graduation from cdl school.

Another way is to get a Texas cdl by registering your vehicle in Livingston, TX using Escapees RV Club. Many truckers do this.

After all this, just sell the car if you won't be needing it anymore.

 

Reminder, if you follow through on changing your address to Texas or Nevada, also get your CDL permit from that state. You'll need this completed at the time you start cdl school.

 

For TN I would rate CDL job opportunities higher in middle TN (Nashville area) & western TN (Memphis area <shudder>. Almost any city in any state where federal intestate highways cross & a sizable population is going to have substantial to great CDL opportunities.

I mentioned TX to the OP thinking it would be more convenient to his OK current life.
