OH, i missed another thing. Scales. They only pay for scales if the load is over 42000 pounds. ya, they put air gauges on their equipment. 9/10 trailers it is broke. plus anyone that knows about scales, and gauges. they need calibrated regularly depends on their use. Marten does not do it.
Ok now Kabar. Nice to meet you. Nice of you to cut up my post like that. LOL I am letting the readers and drivers know about marten policy before they get to oreintation. So, they can make a informed choice.
About sweeping refer trailers are harder to sweep than dryvans. About truck wash's. You do sign a paper saying you will keep truck clean to their Standers. If not be fired. So as you said, Look like a bum. You wont be with marten long enough to look like one. Wash Truck for free, or you get fired. wow what a choice.
Marten does not use Comchecks excluding fueling and advances off the card at fuelstops. any advances or lumpers/washouts over the qualcom are in T-check.
Detention pay. yes we do get it, but you didn't tell the readers. what is the average? Sit at pickup or delivery for 4hours. Detention pay for 2hours is $2-$5. Depending on the customer. That is a slap in the face i was refering too.
Unloading, yes your right. I have only 2 things good to say about Marten and that is 1 of them. Rarely unload.
Drop and Hooks you refer too. Keep dreaming. Martens customer base? Alot of them dont have room to store trailers. Plus, Marten will not pay a customer to store a trailer. I have seen that. There will be alot of swapping in the future. To get loads delievered ontime.
Your Learning Curve? you sound like management. LOL Marten has been learning paperless for over 4years now. How long do you think it takes? I remember when they asked for drivers to test it.
Anyway, Randy himself said, Quote "I want the BEST" and "I want professional" I guess that is only for his drivers, and NOT the office personal. Weekend dispatch Dropped the ball 3 times this weekend.
Not a problem? well no it is not a problem if you except it. Quit looking for perfect??
What? They expect PERFECT from you. Why should you not expect the same?
As i said all this is for the readers/drivers to know the facts. Before they get on the bus.

Ok time to slice and dice. Scales? if the load is not 42000+ you don't need to scale. You have an air gage in the truck and should know where 34,000 is on it. If the one on the trailer is working at all (and most of them do) then you should be able to get the weight right. Just takes a little practice.
Yea refers are a little harder to sweep then vans. They also have a big thing on the front that keeps the load cool and warm. takes a little more to use it then just shutting the doors on a van.
I do lots of drops/hooks and I get any where from $18 to $150 for det time. The $18 was for 1/2 an hr and the $150 was for 10.
As far as truck washes go. I signed no such paper work. I do how ever feel that if a driver is to be professional then he should takes some pride in his truck. Not that big a deal to clean it. If you run around in a dirt ball on wheels then that is what the public will think of you. As a dirt ball, A nasty trucker. I have a clean and shiny truck. Always have. I have had people call in and comment on how nice my truck looks. No who do you think the company cares more about. The dirt ball or the professional?Last edited: Feb 24, 2010

I worked for Marten for about a year. I got detention pay twice, the rest of the times I got nothing. I called payroll and they said if the shipper/receiver refuses to pay it then the driver doesn't get paid detention. Truck washes are out of your own pocket. The air scales on most of the trailers are broken or are not accurate. You cannot just use the scale on your tractor and slide most of the weight on the drives or you'll be over on bridge laws with your tandems that far back. Electronic logs are for the birds. As far as truck washes go, it is a big deal: $42 for just the tractor at Blue Beacon and it's on you! Marten only pays $12 an hour for detention and that's after the first two hours go by. But there are so many loopholes in their detention policy that you'll rarely see a dime of detention. No detention for delay at a drop/hook, no detention for FCFS if you aren't there at the start of their business day, and if they are 24 hr FCFS no detention at all. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. If you only take home $300-$600 a week then that's really sorry pay.

Kabar, either you are management or NOT a over the road driver. Please pick away at my post now. LOL! Scales. I explained in my last past about scales not being right. You should not have said anything about them. Fact's are Fact's. like them or NOT. You must keep them calibrated any scale or gauge. The company does NOT do it.
Kabar I am tell the readers Marten policy. OK? Facts. Your Det. pay? You must be dedicated account. Not over the road.
About your truck wash? I started 7 1/2 years or so. I had to sign a paper about cleaning the truck. They will fire you for a dirty truck. That they consider Dirty!
Yes, the company does not tell past empolyee's about new changes in the company policy's. It is up to the old drivers to keep up with new policies in the company.
as you call it Dirt ball or professional? LOL The Company looks at if you can deliver the load on time and make them MONEY. If you don't make the company money you will be fired. BOTTOM LINE!!!!!!
You know, Your complaints about my post's are getting shorter. LOL PLEASE TRY harder. I am telling facts. I seen your other POST'S. NO STORIES here. YES, grammar, and spelling errors. LOL but no stories.dukeofearl Thanks this. -
Fact I did 2758 miles for this week. Fact I p/u a load tomorrow thats 1900 miles total. I am OTR an know what I'm taking about. Fact you should know where 34000 on the air gage in the truck is and us it. You should know where to set the trailer pins to be legal. (about 6 holes back) You should know if your load was loaded right or not. It's not that hard to be legal. I haul 40,000+ lbs loads all the time. Never pay for a scale and am always legal cause I have learned how to set my axles. As far as the rest of you post. It's nothing any company doesn't expect. Stay up on what is going on and do the job for which you where hired. If you are making money then they are and if they are making money then your are. No one makes money on a truck thats not putting in the miles. Act like a professional and you will be treated like one.

Kabar keep going Please you telling on the company yourself now LOL
Please hehe. I told you ANY SCALE OR GUAGE need calibrated!!!!! Marten does NOT do that to Trailers or Trucks. THAT IS FACT!!!!! No questions no guessing, and no stories. FACT. Like it or not. Only reason I dont get a Overweight ticket? I Put it on a Catscale, and pay $9. Not because the Darn Air gauges. LOL
Come on Kabar admit it? you are management or Randy himself. Just like the Scale issue. Never put it on a scale under 42000?? Come on!!!!!
Oh that is right! you get a CDL! you become a PROFESSIONAL LIER!!!
Like i said your post's are getting alot shorter LOL. Please make up more Excuse's For Marten Transport POLICY. PLEASE.dukeofearl Thanks this. -
Kabar Your a budweiser Driver Right?? Dedicated account? Not over the Road. thats the only way you can weight a 40000+ load on the air gauges, and be legal, Because budweiser has Scales that ARE right. LOL
dukeofearl Thanks this. -
You can believe me or not I could care less. I am OTR and after 18 yrs of doing this I can tell just by the way the truck acts whether the weight is right or not. I know where 34,00 on my truck gage is. I know where to set the trailer tandems at. I can tell by the way it rides if it is right. I never weigh it and I am never over weight. I have never had an over weight ticket And I'm never wrong in the placement of the tandems. Now if you don't have the ability to tell by the way the truck fills where the weight is and whether it is legal or not. Then by all means go spend your money and weigh it. You probably need the tax write off any way.

I just have to say this about Marten.I was there for 5 months last year on Tia Mcdonoughs boardI stayed there until if I stayed any longer I would have lost my house or gone bankrupt or both>I was an OTR driver an the only thing they did well was get me home on time,I have been a trucker for 21 years and I can run as hard as anyone but i certainly didn't get the oppertunity to show it there regular weeks there were run a couple short loads a week and spend 2 or 3 days sitting and that is the gods truth.
dukeofearl Thanks this. -
I do not work for Marten. However I'll put in my 2 cents about scaling loads.
The truck I drive does not have any suspension gauge. Neither do the trailers I pull. I do scale all my loads over 40k according to my company's policy. In my own observation and experience, 99% of the time that I weigh 40-42k loads they are legal with no further adjustments. It's only when my loads are over 44k that I need to adjust them (75% of these are legal 1st weighs, 25% require adjustments)
So, I'd have to agree with Kabar, by looking at how your trailer is loaded and with practice anything below 42k shouldn't be a problem setting the tandems correctly on the first try.Kabar Thanks this.
