Mason Dixon will not lease anyone on unless their equipment can pass a dot inspection. They also require periodic inspections to make sure equipment is kept safe. I believe it is every 6 months. If the owner operator doesn't get the inspection they will not load him until he has had a dot inspection and his equipment has passed. If I recall correctly, Mason Dixon requires that inspections be performed by a company with at least 3 locations. It can be done at any truck stop that has at least 3 locations or any other shop that is dot qualified as long as they have multiple offices.

I don't know any motor carriers who will lease on an owner operator without having them get their equipment inspected by a dot certified shop or garage. Failed inspections come back on the carrier as well as the owner of the equipment and the driver. It impacts their safety record and can affect their ability to get better paying freight.

I understand that you may have had a bad experience with an owner operator. There are some who don't know how to run a business. In fact, there are too many who buy a truck and don't have a clue how to run their new business. That doesn't mean that all owner operators are dishonest. There are also a few carriers who don't take care of their drivers as they should. That also doesn't mean that all carriers are bad. You have drivers who don't do their jobs, steal from their employers and tear up their equipment. That doesn't mean that all drivers are bad, either.

I don't see blaming Mason Dixon or any other carrier for what an owner operator who is leased to them does. They have no control over what happens between an owner operator and their drivers.

If I had someone running my truck for me,HE WOULD GET PAID,very simple.

If a gypsy doesn't want to pay, dump the truck somewhere safe, cut your losses and find your way home.

There is no law as of yet against abandoning a truck.........it is a tool that is still available to a driver with little other recourse.....abandon the truck.

I have zero care or respect for anyone that fails to pay their drivers.None.

If it were up to me anyone who abandons his equipment would go directly to jail. At the very least they should NEVER be allowed to work in this industry again. If there are problems getting paid, there are legal remedies available to the driver. Most of the time that isn't the reason the driver abandons his equipment.

If you have employees or drivers you need to make sure that they get paid, whether you do or not. I have always paid drivers what they are due, as anyone with trucks should. If a driver steals from his employer or abandons the truck then he should bear the cost of recovery to get the equipment home.

First of all, if u want to be taken seriously you might want to have better spelling & grammar. Just trying to read & understand it is a chore in itself
