Perhaps we could suggest an awards sashe (sp) to be worn over the shoulder across the heart of course like the awards badges for the boy/girl scouts, maroon in color of course, to display a drivers awards and required to be worn by all drivers while at HQ? Shortly after getting my BH, I placed my Maverick boonie hat with my mpg, mm, safety pins over the BH and another BH not man enough to say anything to me about it, brought it to the attention to MaMa Kay who said the driver that brought it to her attention had said he thought it was disrespectful to the black hat?!?....... to be covered up. What an idiot. Never did find out who the little big man shall we say actually was but have a pretty good idea he's no longer employed by maverick and unless he changed his way, is "DEMANDING" what he wants from the executives at Decker. lol

I was just wondering if Maverick ever has hiring freezes, or are they always taking in new guys?

Got to love those guys. They don't care about doing good because they are supposed to, they just wanted to feel special and think they can boss people around.

Is it required for the Black Hat to be worn? Could you choose to wear a different hat if you wanted to? Honestly I wouldn't wear it if I ever had one except to company events.

From what I've heard of some of the BH drivers they can sometimes be somewhat over eager to catch another driver in the wrong and instead of helping them fix the problem and educate the driver, they would rather report the driver.

At that point they become similar the dreaded safety guy that takes the job so serious that they sleep with their Hard hat, Orange Vest, and Steel Toed boots at night.

I'm all for being safe and doing the job right, but there comes a point where instead of reporting somebody you can just fix the problem and give a little education and not have to worry about it any more.

This is all just my own Personal Opinion.

Most black hats are good guys but there is always that one guy lol. In my 10yrs Ive only had issues with 2 and they arent here. Both times it was just a guy trying to show his smarts, the first one told me not to be throwing a strap over a suicide coil. I asked him why and he said that it was only to be done on shotgun coils. I said even though I have the proper number of chains thru the eye? (I had the strap ove the top because it was a 40"coil so I wanted to give my tarps something to lay against on the sides) His answer was yes even if I had the proper chains thru the eye. Then(and this is wherewe tangled) he told me to remove it. I said no thanks its not hurting anything. He then told me that he was a blackhat and by god I was suppose to listen to him. I then toldhim why I had it there and if he didnt like that he was free to call whom ever he felt he needed to. He stomped off, lol. Last I saw of him. The second told me I had too many securements on the coil then proceeded to GET ON MY TRAILER AND REMOVE THEM!! (I hadnt tightened them all down yet) I came unglued and told him to get the F off my trailer and if he pulled that stunt again Id escort him physically off my trailer(only not in those exact words if you catch my drift). I never saw him again either and never got a phone call either lol. I really expected one on that one. Both of those times have been years ago now.

They ask you to wear it while on the yards and there's a hardhat sticker they had you put on either side of your hardhat so if there was a shiny hard hard with nametag at a customer and he/she had a question about something they could see the sticker come over and ask. I earned mine in April '09. not sure if they still give the hardhat sticker. Your opinion is right on the nose. some good, some bad, some just a waste of a pretty hat.

Good for you!!! and glad they are gone. Just my 2 cents, but BHs should always be willing to help, not hinder. My 1st bad BH run in was 2 weeks on the job on my own, slinkies, Georgetown, sc. He saw me looking at the diagram of the maroon bible and said hello. I said I was new, and hence was looking at the diagram in the binder. Loaded, and it started pouring rain, coming down like a cow peeing on a flat rock. He sat in his truck right behind me the entire time and when it stopped raining, and I finished securing the load, he came out of his truck, wearing a pair of pressed jeans, crease in the front, Maverick shirt, and a black hat that was shining so bright, you'd need a welders mask to reduce the glare. He came up to me and said...."the next time, you might wanna...." I interrupted him and told him "the next time he is sitting behind someone that tells you it is the first time they have loaded that product, don't sit in your truck watching them struggle because your afraid the rain might ruin the crease in your jeans, GET OUT OF YOUR TRUCK AND HELP THEM." haven't seen him since.
