Ok....some questions answered
Straight from the very nice lady in payroll--detention dept.
Your FM doesn't have to submit anything. The detention macro goes directly to them. Sometimes for whatever reason, the macro never gets to them. If you are detained for a LONG time, they may contact your FM to ask if it is justified. Example of NOT justified would be you show up, unload, then go to bed because you only had 10 minutes left to drive when you got there, then send in your empty call the next morning along with a detention request.
Justified would be: you arrive before appointment time to load/unload, customer lets you rot in your truck while you watch a good chunk of your drive time vaporize, by the time your loaded/empty you have zero hours left and go to bed. Send your loaded/empty call before you start a 10 hour break. Also send in the detention request at this time.
It's a good idea to get with your FM about the actual times so he/she knows what really happened should payroll contact him/her. Logging sleeper berth while collecting is a "gray area" and it won't deny your detention pay. Just remember, they can figure out pretty dang good what really happened. They look at key on/off times and everything.
If you ever send in a detention request and you don't get paid....CALL THEM! Like I said, they either didn't get it or they will explain why you don't qualify to get it.
Lastly, I got what was owed to me. My macros never went through to them. I suggested that we have a system like our home time requests are now. You send it in, the system replies with a confirmation and amount of $$$.seawheeler and flatt Thank this. -

Anybody deliver to Titan Steel in Baltimore, MD? W/A and directions say O/N parking. Google Earth shows me that there might be a gate that will be shut when I show up tomorrow night.

Call 'em and see if anyone answers tonight that could tell ya.

All I can say is put in for it. If you get it, you get it, if you don't you don't. Yes I agree, it is total BS that some of our customers hold us up for so long. Yes I agree that we should not have to send message after message on the qualcom to get what we rightfully deserve, to get paid for our time that has been wasted. I learned a long time ago to choose my battles and not to sweat the small stuff. I'm no millionare but I'm not going to scour the paycheck to make sure that I'm paid for every minute of detention that I requested. After all, that is exactly what it is, a detention "request". To be 100% honest, 99% of the time, I don't even check the paystub to see if I was paid for it. The request has to be sent in no more than 2 hours after the leaving shipper or empty call. And yes, it is after 3 hours after your arrival for a pu or del window, or 3 hours after your scheduled pu or del appointment. I don't make many phone calls, they are not recorded, where as qcom messages BY LAW must be stored for 6 months. A phone call is easily forgotten by a FM or Payroll Department employee who trust me is not only dealing with your issue but as a FM, up to 59 other drivers issues as well.
