I hate when that happens. But definitely call the police, since the trailer license plate number is enough to figure out who it was, and if I'm not mistaken its a felony now for a truck driver to cause damage and then leave.

Wow. A FELONY?
-
I believe so... Felony hit and run when it's a commercial driver. I THINK they put it into effect, but I might be wrong... I know they were talking about upgrading it to a felony but I'm not 100% sure when it started. But either way, he's gonna lose his job with Prime and probably his CDL. Hit and run by commercial drivers is no joke, no matter how minor the damage.
If you make a mistake and hit someone or something, man up and do what you need to do.Last edited: Apr 11, 2013

It really surprised us when he drove away. It wasn't like he tore the truck all to pieces. He went from the pot to the fire. Stupid stupid man. Safety is handling it now. Pictures have been sent. Had a digital camera in the truck so we e-mailed them. Much better then hoping the disposable one worked.

Yeah I agree, digital high-res photos are always better.
I don't know why drivers take off when damage is very minor. It's not like we haven't made mistakes before, and he likely would've gotten only a slap on the wrist for it had he stopped and did everything right. Now he's in serious trouble. -
o you got to keep us updated on this. This will be interesting48Packard Thanks this.

Some drivers can be "difficult" when they hit you like that...
It happened to me a few months ago at the Flying J in Joplin, MO...felt the truck shake, heard the scratching, crunching sound, realized what was going on, finally made it to the the air horn (in the dark, curtains pulled, etc.)...blew the horn, the guy pulled up, adjusted, backed up again and would have hit my trailer that time if I hadn't blew the horn again...LOL.
I called safety while he was still trying to get backed in to see how they wanted me to proceed (he nearly hit me 2 more times while I was on the phone...anyway...I was told to get all the numbers off his truck and trailer and his name, drivers license number and home state.
Getting the numbers off the truck and trailer was easy enough, but when it came to his drivers license info he got stubborn and didn't want to let me see his license...I asked nicely, he refused nicely...I politely told him OK, I'll have to call the police and get them involved...first he got mad, when that didn't work he tried a sob story...which didn't work either (I wasn't gonna pay for that $4,000 hood).
In the end, I got the info without calling the police...but nearly had to watch a grown man cry to do it...LOL. -
They always want to cry after the incident.
