That reminds me of a joke. But I'll keep my fingers silent.

I also would rather be a police officer (county cop there at home)...but realized it too late in life...I could still do it, they'd be glad to have me...but cannot afford the pay cut.

i was RAT division, in southeast KY, living right off I 75, and within 100 miles of 40, 81 and 64, and a little further to 65.

I still missed a few weekends.

How many weekends are you talking about that you missed? I also have questions about the holidays, do they get you home for thanksgiving and Christmas?

Rest assured...you WILL get home for Thanksgiving and Christmas...even if they have to deadhead you...no matter how far.

there were spells i would be hung out 1 weekend a month, went 9 months without missing a single weekend, and the last 3 or 4 months i was there, i'd miss every other weekend...sometimes two in a row.
there are too many variables that go into getting home, such as volume of freight and where it's going, where you live, how you run/work ethic, dumb #### at shippers/receivers, and the fleet manager (and CSR's) your assigned to.
my last FM sucked, and from what i've heard, is no longer with the company. also, i've been deadheaded nearly 400 miles home for christmas ('10), and a little over 200 miles for thanksgiving two years in a row.

I am one of the door shut, haul ### drivers. don't stop for anything but a 10 hr break/fuel/piss, ate on my break or rolling, and never #####ed about anything, especially getting hung out..that's trucking.

nearly all weekends hung out were on the tail-end of 3000+ mile weeks, one being nearly 3600.
