I think what's even funnier is that the company sucks, but his life is supposedly so much better now. Sour grapes?

 

Very true. When a company hear's "two week notice" all they think is this person obviously doesn't want to be with us anymore so why should we let him run for us that long. The times I gave a company a two week notice they got me back to a terminal in less than a week and said they did it so you could get home faster. I suppose they thought it would be easier on me.

When giving a trucking company a two week notice, does that mean they should keep giving you loads and let you go two weeks from the day of notice, or should they get you home within that two weeks?

 

An unhappy employee in $150,000 of my equipment would keep me up at night so his butt would be out of the drivers seat pronto.

 

Giving two weeks notice is nice when you can do it. It might even make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside to think you're doing the right thing. However, we don't always have that luxury when what we think is the best driving job ever, comes along.

That's what happened in my case. The right job at the right time with the right money came along and I couldn't afford to take a chance of missing it. I had just gotten back to the yard of my former company, on a Friday morning when the recruiter called me and asked if I could be in Orientation on Sunday morning. Knowing the jobs in the Sand Division were limited, I had to make the decision immediately. That is, after I called my wife and got her permission

Besides, most trucking companies will tell you they have a stack of applications for drivers waiting to take your place and they're probably right. I'm just not sure I'd want to hire most of them.

 

I agree 100%.

 

The company I work for doesnt do two week notice's. Many reasons why but main one is your leaving, you may not care about this companies equiment, customers or co-workers like someone who wants to be here.

 

This is not limited to the trucking industry. If your job involves direct contact with customers and use of expensive equipment it is rare that you will work out your 2 weeks notice.

 

I see what you are saying but it is certainly possible that they are not unhappy, just moving on to a better opportunity. That will be how it will be for me when I leave the company I'm with now, they're okay, I'll just be moving on to make more money. But I certainly won't be burning the bridge behind me when I go.
