Can any one give me some insight into Maverick's regular flatbed division? I have been thinking about them. I got 5.5 years of driving a van, would like to get into the flatbed side of trucking. I would like to know what their main operating area is, what do they haul alot of, how long are they out for? Do they rent you a car to get to orientation or do you have to take the bus? How long are you drivers home for on the weekends? Any and all info would be appreciated.

I am in the flatbed division. My story is in Heading For Little Rock.
I have only been driving for 6 months and only with Maverick.
I get home almost every weekend. Did not get home for two weekends since I have been driving solo.
I haul, lumber, steel, shingles, coils, tubing, prefab building structures.
They will give you a bus ticket to come to orientation. If you go by any other means, ie fly, they will give you what the bus ticket would have cost.
If you wash out, they will give you a bus ticket home.
I talk to drivers from other companies all the time, and I have not found anyone that is treated better than we are and many not as well.
Hope this helps.TDriver4Life, notarps4me and TexomaYankee Thank this. -
I spent some time in Laurinburg this week.
I was told in orientation that the reason that the glass division gets higher pay is because they do not get as many miles. From the drivers that I talked to, they are getting more miles and by their own admission, they do not work as hard, since they are driving more and loading and unloading less. -
I am a fresh recruit in Knoxville Tn. About to talk to Maverick recruiter about training.
We are also right on the edge of hiring area.

You can not go wrong going with Maverick!

Hey JimTheHut. I'll be starting school on Monday at the local community college. It is a 4 week course. Director says we should be getting 400 to 500 miles of drive time in. I just turned 50 last month. I was wondering how you have found flatbedding so far. Sorry if you already addressed this. I haven't been following this thread from the beginning.
Maverick sounds like a pretty good company to me and I'm doing my best to get off to a good start. -
I am so glad that I went flatbedding! I think it would be boring to do nothing but bump docks all day long.
I find it a fascinating challenge and I love the exercise.
You will not be sorry if you go to Maverick.
TexomaYankee and Woody75 Thank this.
