Hello everyone! I am new to the forum. Excellent information on here! I have a couple of questions that I hope someone here may be able to answer for me.
I just got a call from Maverick yesterday and my application was approved so if all goes as planned I will be leaving for Little Rock soon! Right now it's the waiting game to see when I can head down for orientation. I signed up for the Temperature Control division so hopefully the wait isn't as long as for the flatbed divisions.
My question is this. I have been reading a lot on here about Maverick's Physical Agility Test and the recuiter went over it with me some on the phone. He explained to me about the step test and the weights you have to lift. He also told me there was a part where you have to be able to get on top of a lumber load. Typically how tall are these loads that they use for the physical? I am a big guy and I'm strong but I am worried about not being able to get on top of the lumber load. Any more detailed information that anyone could share with me about the physical agilities test would be greatly appreciated. From what I've read and heard from others Maverick seems to be a great company to work for. I'd hate to waste their time and mine though if this is going to be something I can't do.

You are allowed to set two steel tarps on top of each other and use them as a step. You should be able to do that.BigUn051785 Thanks this. -
As for getting on top of the lumber load it's a box on a flatbed deck. I think the box is 5'2" and a wide as the trailer. The young and nimble just hop right up there with no problem. For the older wider and perhaps wiser recruiters you can use the two rolled tarps to make a step. I saw a guy who was about 5'6 300 pounds put one tarp on top of the other and get up there. Getting down you need to use three points of contact, basically face the box and side off.

Yeah, seawheeler & Jim are right. They put two rolled up tarps for you to use as a big step to get up there if you want. It really is nothing to worry about. My class had several larger fellas in it and they really had no problem with that. I will copy & paste something that I wrote about the agilities test from a different thread:
the agilities test @ orientation is one of the industries toughest I am sure, but it was really not too bad, our class of 29 only lost 3 that day if i remember correctly. The training/testing that follows was where most were weeded out it seems. If u are in decent shape & can lift around 100 lbs from a squat to shoulder height (not too hard even for smaller guy like myself) & a good head on your shoulders, you will do fine. The training at Maverick is just simply OUTSTANDING.sewerman, JimTheHut and BigUn051785 Thank this. -
Question for anyone that has been through Little Rock.
Does Maverick have a workout room there in Little Rock? How about the hotel that we will be staying in? -
Maverick has a nice workout room with a variety of equipment in the main building next to the drivers lounge area.
-
Thanks Plentygood. Hope that I will be able to use it while I'm going thru everything.
-
Yep they do have a workout room at the Little Rock terminal only. During orientation you will get to stay in the 4 aces Maverick hotel. Its onsite and comfortable but its not a Holiday Inn
its not a hole either and its clean.

I would not advise spending too much time in the workout gym though, I think that you will find that you need to spend nearly every awake moment focusing on the homework assignments that you will get each and every night. Time, you will find, is fleeting, and you do not want to perform any of your assignments poorly because you ran out of time and/or had to stay up until 2a.m. to complete an assignment. From the first day, you will have homework, do not do it poorly. Just some friendly advice from one who just got done going through it about a month ago..... (but I did take my daily walk everyday too! LOL)
