Hello all. I start my CDL class Aug. 6th at a local community college. I have been researching several carriers and really like what Maverick has to offer. My concern is about learning on an automatic instead of manual just in case I want to pursue other avenues later. For some reason I feel like I would be short changing myself in developing the skill of driving a stick. Would it not be wise to learn elsewhere and then switch to Maverick after 6mos or a year of driving a manual.....or take a chance and then worry about acquiring those skills later if need be? Thanks in advance to everyone on here. These threads really help!

Many companies are using autos today so you wouldnt be limiting yourself to much, besides you learned stick in driving school Im sure. Once learned you never forget.

Thanks Dan. Haven't started school yet, but like you said I will get some hours learning on a stick. The school I am going to gives 1 on 1 driving time so hopefully I can grasp a feel for it. I guess worst case scenario would be for me to have to take a refresher course in the future.

Bobby is a good guy...lots of experience, and he learned from some of the best glass haulers there ever has been...and yes, he likes his home time...One couldn't ask for a more knowledgeable trainer.

Bobby and I live in the same small town in TN.

acouplyr. i'd bet my yearly salary you're cdl school will have manual transmissions, lol, the trucks will more than likely be "a few" years old meaning 7-10 at least if not more, so you'll learn to drive "a stick" there. After CDL school, go with whichever company you choose and after 6 mos if you dont chose Maverick in the first place, and you contact recruiting, attend orientation, and get hired, you'd be hired on at a higher payrate because of your experience.

    acouplyr Thanks this.
