Can someone tell me about the Maverick Regional Southwest Flatbed Division? Where it runs and what ? Or what to expect out of Dallas Tx. Just some general info about how it works.

    Thanks

Here is my friend's answer to your question verbatum: "I've run TX, OK, KS, MO, AR, LA,TN, IL, and AL. Freight can be sheet rock, bar, pipe, coils, lumber. As far as hometime, I have only been hung out 2 times in 18 mos." He is a good dude, and loves his job with Maverick. Good luck!

Hey tell your friend thanks for all the great info! Yes I have be approved for flatbed training, but I'm a little concerned about all of the tarping and loading stuff. Do you now if everything has to be tarped? Or when it is required? I have a lot of experience at van, end dump and reefer but just haven't had the flatbed training. I have been reading on here and everyone say Maverick is great. Thanks again!

I was originally hired in for glass and ended up switching to TCD (reefer) because the tarping and stuff just wasn't for me. So, worst case scenario, you can switch to TCD if flatbed turns out to be too much. I know you're in the hiring area because I live in Fort Worth, and just picked up in Dallas last night.

    Thanks Captain3
How long have you been a Maverick?

How much trouble was it to switch from glass to TCD? ... if you decide that is not for you, I may try the RSW flatbed but I'm not sure about the tarping in this Texas heat! How long did you have to stay in glass before you could switch?

And I noticed your commit on " I survived the Maverick training program and all I got was this lousy $1200 paycheck!"

Is that all you get for 5 or 6 weeks training is $1200.00? Please explain.

I think Maverick sound like a great company but I just have to decide RSW flatbed or TCD.

Do you know any other Maverick drivers out of DFW area?

    Thanks

No, unfortunately he doesn't. I have invited him to get on here and create a profile- and HE MAY HAVE, I just have never seen him post yet. I will get on him to jump in here and get active again this week. I never get to see him as we are in totally different areas, but I text back and forth with him pretty regularly. He and I were roommates through Maverick Barn Training.

I've been here a little over a year. My 1 year anniversary from going solo is in 4 days, on the 20th. But I was hired in April.

It wasn't any trouble really to switch. The only bad part was that I had to wait an extra 3 weeks for a TCD trainer to become available, because there are so few of them, and since I wasn't originally on the schedule I had to do some waiting. I ended up just staying in NLR and doing odd jobs and classes around the terminal until once became available.

I don't know any drivers personally who live in DFW, except my trainer, who lives in Royce City. But I do know we have several that do. They may be calling me here in a few days and ask me to do it if they think my record is good enough, since we are so short on TCD trainers.

My signature line is meant to be a sarcastic comment. My average gross pay each week is usually between $900 and $1200, so it's kind of a sarcastic jab saying that I went through training and all I got was a $1200 weekly paycheck. It's a sarcastic compliment lol.

You're paid $550 per week while in training. The first week you'll get $50 in cash to help you kinda survive the first few days and then you'll get a $500 on Friday, then $550 per week after that.

I'm one of those guys with shaky balance when standing on top of high objects, so I discovered glass/flatbed just wasn't for me. And even growing up in Texas, the heat was just too much. I'm a bigger guy and used to be a taxi driver and a computer office worker, so I don't come from a heavy physical background like the military or farming.

There are flatbedders that wouldn't trade their jobs for anything, and there are TCD guys like me who wouldn't do flatbed if you doubled our pay. You just have to decide what you want to do. If you do go in as flatbed and then switch, be prepared for extra waiting time because the TCD trainer list is very short and if you're not scheduled in it may involve some waiting time.

If you have any TCD specific questions, feel free to ask.
