So what, it's the tranportation industry. Look around these forums and you will see that there is no freight, the economy is crashing and people are not buying thing or building houses etc etc. No freight means no work. the guys who do have jobs are barely working so I'm glad to see someone using there head and stoping the influx of drivers. Don't believe this driver shortage BS they feed ya. the fact of the matter is that there is only a driver shortage when you factor in turnover at these mega carriers.
Werner laid people off and many companies if not stoped hiring have really raised there standards.
As for the license, you won't pass if you don't have some practice. this isn't the same as your goosneck. And even if you do pass unless one of those buddies will hire you for at least two years you won't be able to get job because of no schooling. The small guys can't hire drivers with no experience and the big companies who do won't take you unless you have school.

I'm on the waiting list at Mav and I can keep my job until they call so I'm not worried about that. I don't have to have any experience to get hired on with Maverick, just my class a. As I said, there is a big difference between a gooseneck and a 53 ft trailer. As far as practice goes I'm going to ask the boss If I can practice with the cement trucks. We run 3 pnuematic trailers to Tulsa to pick up cement. They park them at our sand terminal wich I just so happen to live right next to, so that could work out good. It may take time but I'll get it done somehow.

You may want to check with them again. I do believe the "no experience" hiring is with a cdl school only. I may be wrong but if I am that is the first I have heard of this. Personally I hate the cdl schools and think they are flooding the industry with under trained and ill equiped steering wheel holders which is what is running the industry straight down the crapper.

Hey Notarps
When does Maverick pay the hiring bonus and the training pay? -
You get paid weekly. You get the sign on bonus in 180 days.

my app is being processed now. I want to learn flatbed so it seemed like a good place to do it. My credit sucks so they may not take me since I know they do credit checks.
-
does anyone know how long it takes to be hired from maverick once they approve your app?
-
My credit sucks and my app was approved a month and a half ago. I told Angie about the state freezing funds for cdl schooling and she told me that I didn't have to go to school, and I told her I know but I don't know anybody with a truck and trailer. That's when I told her I might try to rent a truck.

Kaydriver1, do you already have your CDL? If so, Maverick will take you on, if your app is approved. If you don't have a CDL, I don't think they will. They don't do CDL school or training.
I sent in a on line app on Feb 11, had a msg on my answering machine on Tuesday afternoon. Called and talked to Beth. She called me again on the 21st to tell me I was approved and I was on the list. I'm currently scheduled, tentatively, to be out there on March 9. She's supposed to call me on the 3rd.
So the process can take a few weeks. I think it also depends on where you are located. -
No I do not have my class a, I have my class a permit. My application was approved a long time ago. I have been on the waiting list for a month and a half. I'm trying to get my class a but I keep running into things that are setting me back. And yes, It does make a difference where u live. If u live in Kentucky,Indiana,or Illinois you will get in there faster, at least thats what Angie told me.
