Problem is, my current job, in retail, is headed out the door, even if I wanted to keep it. So I guess I'll take my chances. I know of one Mav driver who has had a heart attack in the past and, like me, is on maintenance meds. He told me another 'approved' guy in his orientation group did get cut, for basically the same reason, except he was about 50 lbs. overweight. So who knows?

If they do cut me, I'll get back here and take a refresher, then get on with who ever I can. Get a min of 6 months current, then find a better home.

Maverick is one of 2 companies (flatbed) that I've found that will take me on without a refresher or going back to school. So I've got to give it a shot.

JimF--if you got any medical issues past or present, make sure you take any releases or notes from your doc. i talked to a buddy of mine who got sent home cause he didn't have all his medical stuff with him from his heart attack years ago. they only give you so long to get that stuff faxed, then you have to go home to get it....better to take everything with you relating to your medical history.

Notarps and other Maverick drivers do you have any pictures of your trucks?

I only live about 1 mile from I-81 in Southwest Virginia and I see your trucks on I-81 every couple of days. I was thinking about applying next year around May so maybe I will see you guys around.

Yeah, called my MD today, to get a letter from him, and will call my cardiologist Monday and get same. He and I have talked about it, I don't have any set restrictions, can do whatever I'm physically able to.

"caxpt, what did they disqualify you for? If you don't mind me asking. Did they rell (sic) you it was a health issue?"

Same as you JimF, I was maintenance only.. and no, they didn't say anything other than 'couldn't use me', so technically they didn't disqualify me for anything... but the result was the same. I was sent back to get the clearance, kept contact up till I got the 'couldn't use' statement even after getting the clearance.

And a time limit is no excuse jh. If that kind of stuff is necessary they should let people know that, especially if they were told up front it might possibly be considered as an issue. They don't. Their doctors have to approve you.. not yours.

That's why I suggested you be cautious.

I understand about the disappearing job, but going to a maybe job that you don't get, can be just as bad. But you have your head about you... you do what you have to and do what you can, so good luck.

Thanks caxpt. Guess I'll just take my chances. I'm going over to a semi local school to talk to them more about a refresher, if Mav doesn't want me. It'll cost me about $750., which I can afford out of my tax refund, if I really have to. That will open up a couple more companies for me.
