My 2013 Maxxforce 11, after starting up cold and idling for 4-5 minutes, the RPM will rise to 1400. Had both EGR coolers replaced recently with a successful parked regen after. Cruise is off and regen switch is off. Tap the clutch and goes back to normal idle. Once warm, no advanced idle. Truck runs very well, lots of power. Something to be concerned about?

Yes, they do scream when cold. It can be scary if you don't know. They want them warmed up asap to reduce emissions, but I really don't like the idea of screaming a cold engine like that.

That used to bother me like crazy when I drove them. Then you will see all the exhaust coming out in clouds. I never understood why manufacturers thought it made sense to have the engine work that hard from cold start. I will add this, if after about 30 min or so it don't return to normal idle, that may be a problem

    Heavyd and joejffrs Thank this.

I’ve been tapping the clutch to bring it back down to idle and letting it warm up that way. Engine seems to struggle getting to 1400 RPM and the white cloud of exhaust you mentioned. Just doesn’t seem right!

    Heavyd Thanks this.

An update on something I discovered today-after cold start, if I turn on the cruise control, the engine stays at normal idle. A lot less annoying!
