You're welcome, and it sounds like you'll do OK - just remember: don't think of May as a training company and all the negative connotations that term presents. A better phrase would be: A trucking company that will provide instruction and guidance. (It sounds strange, I know, but it does work positively if you think of it that way....)

I have a lifelong friend who's driven for all the northwest trucking companies, May included. He said he had a run in with Marvin, the owner one time, but other than that, it was a good experience.

I hope it goes well for you. I have also decided to try to get on with May. The Payette office is fairly close to me. I have been pre-hired and have the option of 11 western and 48. I am thinking about doing the 48. 11 western sounds best because I have a family, but I am thinking that 48 will pay better and give May the impression I am flexible. I am going into this with the frame of mind that if I give my best, I will hopefully have a good time and the company will value me.

On another note, I love driving trucks so far, Ive always wanted to drive a big rig since I was a young kid. I am finishing up at Sage this coming week, and its been an absolute blast, I highly recommend that school. Ive conquered the range driving, and have mastered the 10 speed Freightliner we have, today though the Short nosed Pete taught me who was boss. I finally got the hang of the 13 speed after a couple hours. But not entirely lol

I am an avid Drag Racer and race with a manual, so I have some bad habits. I'm great at shifting my car, but it doesn't help with driving the trucks.... I must learn that the trucks do not like to be powershifted... ;)

Good luck to you Cudascious, hope you get on with May. I'll be going Monday for orientation, if everything goes good and I'm actually hired :biggrin_25523: it will be a pleasure meeting you:biggrin_25514:
I had the same assumtion about shifting. Upshifting went ok, downshifting was a little more difficult. I remember the first grade they took us up 6%, downshifted to ninth went pretty good. I was nearly to the top but there was a big fifth wheel going slow in front of me, I thought I would slow down a bit and wait for him to crest the peak of the hill. By then I was almost ready for eighth, the trainer said "pass him when it's clear" so I proceeded to pass him in the hammer lane, missed eighth, missed seventh, finally stuck it in sixth, then I was going about 15mph, I got back over as quick as I could, by that time, all that slow traffic was way ahead of me, but at least I didn't have to stop and start over:biggrin_25521: Thankfully after that I did much better downshifting.
I haven't driven a 13 speed yet, we learned on a 10, I think I should be able get the hang of it, thanks to youtube :biggrin_25525:
