it's not hard to install jake brake on 14l series 60. I have done it before. Dealer visit needed so they will reprogram ecm. You can find used jake brake (2 pieces) at junkyads. $1200-1500. Some bolts, spacers and harness needed. $3000 total for parts.

no jake brakes and having jake brakes is the difference between not having to change brakes and drums every 30k miles but instead every very many miles later. So after just a couple years, the jakes outweigh the cost. Owner operators use their jakes all the time and know what im talking about. Company drivers= hammer down and hard braking.
This is local driving, I know nothing about OTR Trucking brake life. -
I would never own a truck without a brake Jake. That wasnt my point in the post you quoted. I was replying to someone who asked why would you not have a Jake brake. Just ask cr England, werner, and all the others how many jack knives have occurred from improper use of jake brakes by inexperienced or dumb drivers.

For what it's worth all the newer trucks with Detroit's will kick off the Jake if wheel slip is detected. You can be in snow and let off the throttle at 1500 rpm with Jake's on and it will immediately cut the Jake and modulate throttle. Feels weird but very neat feature if you happen to forget to cut off your Jakes in bad weather. One of the few electronic advances that makes sense.

Just bought an 06 Freightliner with a S60, and no Jakes. Looking at a used set and the salesman told me I needed different injectors…I have never heard that before? Anyone else?
