Go with it and get the experience. I.was on the cpm there OTR and never really understood how they did that daily rate. They are relatively laid back and have good equipment. When I left there a couple of years ago they had bumped the trucks up to 65. It's all about taking your time,.never get in a hurry doing anything and you will do.just fine.

    Don't sweat those right turns.

A while back, I found the following video to quite helpful on that topic:

    Turns in a Big Rig

Watch it at least several times.

You'll get it -- just watch your tandems in your mirrors, as you make the turns.

If you have mirrors on front fenders, you look in corner of eye few times throughout the turn. The week of training will help you alot and really expand on what you learned in trucking school.

    Kryste Thanks this.

The last thing I would do is depend on GPS navigation provided by the company. Invest in a Rand McNally GPS.

They don't send you out on the road with a trainer for a month or so? Wow. That pay package seems ok to get started. We all gotta get started somewhere, and the only way truly to get better is to get out here and get experience real time.

austinmike, Kryste and Turdzthaword Thank this.

I'd also invest in a Rand McNally trucker atlas if one can be found.

    Numb and Kryste Thank this.

They are available at most truck stops, good bookstores....or over the internet:

    2024 Motor Carriers' Road Atlas

Spend a little extra -- & get the version with LAMINATED pages -- it's great for making handy notes, & also with trip planning. Those pages just wipe off -- if you use erasable markers.
